Job Description

Purpose Production Managers are responsible for the technical management, supervision, and control of industrial production processes. Those include providing the highest quality product, on time, and at a fair value. This will be done using production tools and expertise when completing the job duties as detailed below:
Essential Duties Resource Requirements:
Assure the proper resources are in place to administer the production schedule to deliver quality products on the customer request date while constantly striving for improved utilization of available resources.
Equipment Requirements:
Help in the determining of new equipment and facility requirements. Ensure effective and efficient operation. Work with the manufacturing engineers to produce production layouts and capacity requirements to meet the production objectives.
Labor Requirements:
Ensure the hiring and retention of production team members to facilitate the accomplishments of SMC's goals. This includes the negotiation of compensation with the new hire candidates.
Communication:
Communicate with internal and external customers to keep them informed of the production department activities and capability for service. Generate monthly reports showing the performance related the department goals and objectives. Communicate all corporate information to the production employees.
Quality:
Assure compliance to all work methods and procedures that are contained in the SMC quality plan. Identify areas of quality improvement activities to improve overall business performance. Support and keep current all ISO9001 and
ISO14001
requirements and SMC's QMS. Identify quality measurements showing continuous improvement both internal and external.
Productivity:
Develop and implement programs to reduce scrap and improve productivity / product quality so that all key factors of performance are achieved or exceeded. Conduct audits of work team to monitor progress to expectations. Typical productivity objectives are lead-time and on-time to schedule and manager must have a practical user level knowledge of ERP and make data driven decisions for their respective areas.
Continual Improvement:
Daily analysis of team performance with utilization of industry standard problem-solving tools, including on-time delivery analysis, delinquent analysis, productivity analysis and claims analysis. True root cause analysis with documented corrective actions using the proven PDCA process is required to show continuous improvement of Team(s).
Inventory:
Responsible for maintenance, accuracy, and condition of component parts used in production.
Policies & Procedures:
Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place and followed to meet the corporate objectives. Strategy development/execution of self-directed work teams. Develop / implementation of programs to illicit and apply team member suggestions where applicable. Conduct employee evaluations on a regularly scheduled basis.
Throughput Projects:
Create initiatives and lead all machinist/ assemblers on cost reduction efforts at SMC through machine tooling automation, in machining and assembly by applying process elimination methods. (i.e. Kaizen) Financial Management Help in the creation of annual budgets for the department and monitor/control spending to exceed or achieve the plan. Participation in cost control relating to departmental budget. Manage participation with QA and Manufacturing engineers to reduce production errors both internal and external. Help in the determining of new equipment and facility requirements. Development of Others Assessment of individual/organizational capabilities with action plans for improvement. Administration and facilitation of team member training in accordance with Job proficiencies and other organizational requirements. Identify training needs, develop training programs and assist in training of team members. Develop/implementation of programs to ilicit and apply team member suggestions. Participate in the hiring of new team members and supervisors. Provide ongoing feedback to workteams and team members. Housekeeping/Safety Create a world-class environment that reflects pride in our product, processes and people. Perform a regular 5S review of all managed production processes. Be responsible for the safe operation of equipment and work practices. Direct Reports Production Supervisors Indirect Reports Material Handlers Assemblers Operators In this role, you will complete all other duties as assigned by your Plant Manager. Additional training will be provided to new hires on SMC ERP systems, standards, and practices. Physical Demands/Work Environment The physical demands of this position require the employee to stand, walk, and use their hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with their hands and arms. The role will also necessitate the Supervisor to lift heavy components (up to 40Lbs) as needed. The person is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to hear and talk. In some areas, supervision of clean room will require head to toe clean room gowning. (As needed) While the production facility is temperature controlled, the work environment may expose employees to noise, heat, open flame, cold, dust, lubricants and/or solvents. Must have the ability to perform process functions (example: product assembly and test.) This job may require person to be in front of computer monitor for a longer period. Minimum Requirements A four-year degree in a related field (i.e. Engineering or technology field, Operations Management) or equivalent experience. A minimum of five years in Production, Distribution or Manufacturing Supervision or Manufacturing Engineering. Detail-oriented with strong time management skills.
Communication:
Must be able to read/write/speak and understand English. Must be able to effectively communicate. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Strong systems abilities and knowledge of personal computer applications (i.e. spreadsheet, database, word processing, E-mail, ERP(Syteline)). Experience in a team based environment. Ability to work and direct in a team environment Strong system abilities and knowledge of personal computer applications (i.e. spreadsheet, database & word processing) Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
