Position Summary The Deli Assistant Manager supports the daily operations of the deli and prepared foods department while working closely with the Deli Manager to ensure strong execution, operational consistency, product quality, food safety, and customer service standards. This is a hands-on leadership position with the expectation that the Assistant Manager is capable of performing all functions of the Deli Manager and independently overseeing department operations as needed. Key Responsibilities Scheduling & Staffing
  • Assist in creating and managing weekly staff schedules to ensure appropriate department coverage
  • Monitor attendance, staffing levels, and time-off requests
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts in coordination with HR and department leadership Workflow & Production Management
  • Assist in planning and overseeing daily production based on sales trends and operational needs
  • Maintain efficient workflows to maximize productivity and minimize waste
  • Ensure consistent product quality, freshness, and presentation standards Department Operations
  • Oversee and perform opening, mid-shift, and closing responsibilities as required
  • Ensure completion of cleaning schedules, equipment checks, inventory tasks, and operational procedures
  • Maintain organized, sanitary, and food-safe work areas Kitchen & Prepared Foods Coordination
  • Coordinate daily production and replenishment needs with kitchen staff
  • Ensure timely execution and delivery of prepared foods and grab-and-go items
  • Support consistent communication and operational flow between departments Customer Service & Merchandising
  • Maintain fully stocked, visually appealing, and properly rotated sales cases and displays
  • Provide exceptional customer service and resolve customer concerns professionally
  • Support merchandising initiatives and department sales goals Inventory & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, invoice processing, and department documentation
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure system accuracy, including scheduling and payroll systems such as Auris
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and health regulations Vendor Relations & Special Orders
  • Assist with vendor communication, product ordering, and delivery tracking
  • Manage customer special orders and standing orders accurately and efficiently Training & Staff Development
  • Assist in training and developing team members on operational procedures and department standards
  • Provide coaching, direction, and ongoing support to staff
  • Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment Leadership Responsibilities
  • Serve as acting department leader in the absence of the Deli Manager
  • Identify and resolve operational issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Work collaboratively with store leadership and other department managers to support overall store operations Qualifications
  • Previous leadership experience in deli, prepared foods, kitchen, grocery, or food service operations preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and retail food operations (ServSafe preferred).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including opening, mid, closing, weekend, and holiday shifts based on business needs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (8 hours) and lift/move products as required (50lbs) Position Expectations The Deli Assistant Manager is expected to lead by example, maintain high operational standards, support department profitability and growth, and contribute positively to overall store performance and team culture.
This position is full-time and includes nights (until 9:30pm) and weekend shifts; pay commensurate with experience.
