Job Description

The Smoke Shop BBQ Company, 4x winner of " Boston Best BBQ" by Boston Magazine, with locations across the Boston area, is seeking a Restaurant Assistant General Manager. Kitchen Managers focus on back-of-house operations and floor supervision. This role entails overseeing the kitchen's day-to-day activities to ensure profitability through effective management strategies. The Kitchen Manager will work collaboratively with the Director of BBQ Operations and the General Manager.
Core Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Seek to generate financial success and profitability for the restaurant, working in partnership with the Director of BBQ Operations and the General Manager
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the budgeted cost of goods across all categories, actively working to minimize waste and spoilage
  • Lead by example to generate a positive, productive work environment for all staff
  • Achieve proficiency in taking guest orders, delivering food and beverages, and energetically representing the Smoke Shop brand
  • Focus on preventing food waste through careful management of prep pars and ingredient care
  • Deliver engaging, educational, and hospitality-driven briefings during pre-shift meetings
  • Lead high-quality training for FOH and BOH staff, focusing on hospitality, product knowledge, and the standards of Smoke Shop service
  • Manage time effectively and meet all job responsibilities
  • Follow all established policies and procedures, including those for product, hospitality, HR, health, safety and sanitation
  • Monitor food counts and inventory and ensure ordering is done appropriately and in timely fashion
  • Assist in maintaining organization in different parts of kitchen including line cook stations, walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and dry good storage areas
  • Work closely with both FOH and BOH teams to maintain efficiency, quality control, hospitality, and the integrity of Smoke Shop products and services
  • Run great shifts by engaging with guests, coaching staff, conducting regular checks, and aiming for optimal ticket times in the kitchen
  • Oversee the care of kitchen and restaurant spaces and equipment, promptly communicating repair and maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel
  • Work on the line as needed
  • Exhibit comprehensive food and beverage knowledge, continuously learning and teaching pertinent information about all menu items
  • Train BOH employees on cooking techniques, food preparation, plating, execution during service etc.
Compensation:
$70,000-$80,000 annually
Schedule:
Full-Time, varying schedule, available on nights, weekends and holidays
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • 2+ years of prior restaurant service experience, 2+ in management role.
  • Excellent hospitality and customer service skills.
  • Experience in high-volume restaurant.
  • Result-driven, with a proven ability to be a self-starter.
  • Excellent organizational & communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safe cleaning and sanitizing practices in a restaurant environment.
  • Positive attitude, sense of urgency, and willingness to develop BOH staff.

  • Stand for the entirety of an 8-hour shift
  • Lift and transport items in excess of 50 lbs
  • Frequently kneel, bend over, lift items above head, work in small or cramped spaces.
  • Work in areas of high or low temperatures.
  • Work quickly and safely in stressful circumstances. Other Requirements
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Able and willing to communicate in English and Spanish as necessary
  • Serve Safe Food Handler Training
  • Able to work well in team-oriented environment
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
