Job Description

The Shipyard is looking for a Kitchen Manager to help build and lead the back-of-house team for our new sports tavern concept opening in North Muskegon. We are creating a Sports Bar & Restaurant centered around great hospitality, elevated tavern food, strong systems, and consistent execution. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a kitchen from the ground up and play a major role in establishing the culture, standards, and operations of a brand-new restaurant. About The Shipyard The Shipyard is a sports-driven tavern focused on scratch cooking, quality ingredients, classic comfort food, and an energetic atmosphere. Our goal is to become the go-to spot for game days, family dinners, date nights, and neighborhood regulars. Position Overview The Kitchen Manager will oversee daily kitchen operations while helping build and develop the systems that support long-term success. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on cooking and leadership responsibilities. We are looking for an individual who can execute during service, develop people, maintain standards, and help create a positive kitchen culture. Responsibilities, Leadership & Team Development Hire, train, and develop kitchen staff Establish kitchen culture and expectations Coach employees through feedback and accountability Lead by example during service Maintain professionalism and composure under pressure Kitchen Operations Manage daily kitchen execution Ensure food quality and consistency Maintain recipe and plating standards Monitor ticket times and kitchen flow Assist with prep systems and pars Support menu development and seasonal changes Food Safety & Cleanliness Maintain health department standards Ensure proper food handling and sanitation procedures Organize cleaning schedules and kitchen maintenance Lead by example in cleanliness and organization Cost Control & Inventory Assist with inventory management Monitor waste and product usage Support food cost initiatives Report inventory and cost information to ownership Qualifications Previous kitchen leadership experience preferred Strong line cooking experience required Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards Experience with inventory and ordering systems preferred Ability to lead teams in fast-paced environments Strong communication and organizational skills ServSafe Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain) We are looking for someone who: Takes pride in their work Leads by example Wants to build something from the ground up Values systems and consistency Understands accountability Cares about developing people Wants to be part of a growing company
Compensation & Benefits Salary:
