Job Summary - Food Programs Manager This is a part-time position primarily based at The Neighborhood Center in Camden NJ. The Food Programs Manager reports to the Director of Nutrition and Agriculture and is responsible for assisting with the agricultural and educational components of the urban farm in addition to weekend events and food pantry operations. Work hours will be Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays, with flexible hours up to 20 hours per week. Work days may start as early as 7:00am. To provide essential support to food insecure residents of Camden, the Neighborhood Center is developing a pantry, expanding community access to food and wellness resources. Our goal is to accommodate the families we serve with nutritious foods, educational resources, and a sense of community and belonging. The food pantry operates as a part of our food programming in collaboration with our urban farm. Established in 2016, the Neighborhood Center's urban farm serves as an educational green space and a hub for fresh food production. We acknowledge that access to fresh, nutritious food is critical to health and equity. The urban farm provides essential access for Camden's residents of all ages, offering a hands-on approach to nutrition and wellness. With the support of grants and donations, the Neighborhood Center is able to provide a well-rounded experience to the students and families at the center by incorporating the urban farm in our afterschool programs, summer camp, and after-hours events. The produce grown in our on-site urban farm is shared directly with the families served at the Neighborhood Center at no cost. Responsibilities Food Pantry Assistance (45%) Assist Director of Nutrition and Agriculture with pantry operations Manage inventory of the food pantry, receiving and documenting donations from partner organizations and other sources Assist with food pantry data collection and reporting Assist with additional community outreach, coordinating community partners and resources to during food pantry distribution Assist community members with food selections during pantry distributions Farming and Project Coordination (45%) Work in collaboration with the Director of Nutrition and Agriculture to: Ensure successful seasonal farm operations, including: crop production and maintenance, general farm and infrastructure stewardship, harvest, and food distributions Gather relevant data for use in measuring program impact and outcomes including but not limited to tracking volunteer traffic, and recording harvest numbers Assist with leading volunteers through projects in the urban farm Other tasks as needed Program Development and Facilitation (10%) Collaborate with the Director of Nutrition and Agriculture to develop in-person programs that promote health, equity, and earth stewardship for a diversity of learners, including grades K-8, teens, and adults Work with volunteers of various ages and backgrounds. Assist with scheduling and coordinating groups who are visiting the farm Assist the Director of Nutrition and Agriculture with educating families, volunteers, and staff about food access as a social determinant of health and basic garden practices Facilitate nutrition and farm programs for grades k-8 (5-13 years) that center reciprocal learning and direct experiences with growing and eating food Facilitate farm tours and engage with diverse stakeholders and visitors Assist Director of Nutrition and Agriculture to plan and coordinate special events that expand our work and benefit our mission This job description outlines the primary responsibilities of the position, however, the employee may be required to perform other related duties as assigned by management to meet the needs of the organization, including occasional reassignment of tasks based on operational demands.
What we are looking for:
Ability to develop trusting relationships with diverse populations and participate in community engagement work Demonstrates strong understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities and the ability to promote and implement strategies of equity and inclusion. Experience in growing food Experience in food, nutrition, and farming education Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift, carry, push, pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds Clean driving record and ability to use personal vehicle to travel to programs Up-to date FBI, NJ Criminal, and NJ Child Abuse clearances (or ability to obtain) Excellent written and oral communication skills Flexibility and adaptability Someone who is team oriented and enjoys collaboration Commitment to our mission and our values Ability to receive mandatory annual vaccines, as well as a drug screening, TB test, etc upon hire Agricultural experience is highly encouraged! Serv Safe certification - We will support your certification if you don't have it already! Compensation and Benefits up to $20 hourly All offers of employment are subject to and contingent upon satisfactory completion of background checks as determined by The Neighborhood Center.
