Job Description

Role Summary Assistant General Managers are developing business leaders responsible for helping run the store at a high level while supporting the General Manager in daily operations, team performance, guest experience, and store standards. An AGM should be capable of operating the store as the acting General Manager when needed. They are expected to understand the full rhythm of the business, support execution across front and back of house, and help ensure the shop runs smoothly, profitably, and in alignment with The French Workshop experience. This role is for leaders who can move beyond shift control and begin thinking like store operators, balancing people, product, service, and business needs at the same time. Core ResponsibilitiesStore Leadership & Operational Ownership Support the General Manager in overseeing the full daily operation of the bakery Act as the primary store leader in the GM's absence Help ensure strong execution of opening, mid-shift, and closing routines Maintain awareness of service flow, staffing, product levels, cleanliness, and operational priorities throughout the day Step in where needed to keep the store running smoothly across FOH and BOH Guest Experience & Brand Standards Help uphold a warm, polished, and consistent guest experience Maintain visible floor presence during high-volume periods Support Supervisors and Customer Service team members in creating a welcoming, organized, and memorable environment Address guest concerns professionally and help resolve issues in a way that protects the brand and builds trust Reinforce standards around service, presentation, display fullness, and store atmosphere Team Leadership & Development Help coach, support, and develop Supervisors and hourly team members Reinforce expectations around urgency, communication, professionalism, and hospitality Help onboard and train new hires Support shift deployment and help ensure the right people are in the right places at the right times Identify team performance issues and communicate them to the GM with sound judgment and follow-through Business Operations & Store Support Support scheduling, labor awareness, inventory oversight, and product availability Assist with reviewing production levels, waste trends, and daily operational needs Help oversee receiving, invoice logging, and store reporting requirements Support compliance with cash handling, food safety, audit readiness, and sanitation standards Help solve day-to-day operational challenges quickly and responsibly Management Partnership Serve as a reliable operational partner to the GM Escalate larger people, service, facilities, or business issues appropriately Help maintain consistency in standards, routines, and store communication Support store initiatives, rollouts, and process changes with professionalism and accountability What Success Looks Like A successful AGM helps the store feel: stable and well run guest-centered and polished operationally sharp supported from both a people and business standpoint
Successful AGMs:
can confidently lead the store in the GM's absence support both the floor and the business behind the scenes develop Supervisors and team members effectively make sound day-to-day decisions without constant direction help the GM protect standards, improve execution, and strengthen the team Skills and Qualities Strong floor leadership and operational awareness Ability to think beyond the shift and understand the bigger picture of store performance Strong communication, judgment, and professionalism Comfortable giving direction, making decisions, and following through Calm and reliable under pressure Strong hospitality instincts balanced with operational discipline Able to support both people leadership and business execution Requirements Prior leadership experience in a bakery, café, restaurant, or hospitality environment required Experience supervising teams and supporting daily operations Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move for extended periods Comfortable supporting both guest-facing and administrative/operational responsibilities
