Job Description

General Manager The Hellbender General Manager works side-by-side with the partners and culinary team to take responsibility for the health of the business, manage the team, and continually improve the standards and protocols of day to day operations. They are accountable for the aspects of the financial health of the business and the overall quality of hospitality, service, food and beverage that they oversee. They work closely with the rest of the senior management team, the floor managers and line staff to ensure that the highest standards are upheld in the aforementioned areas. The successful GM possesses solid leadership skills, the ability to manage change, excellent written and verbal communication skills, quick action/follow through as well as a deep understanding of how to drive the P&L statement.
Responsibilities:
Driving Service & Hospitality Standards Lead the FOH staff to ensure the service and hospitality standards at Hellbender are well-defined, thoroughly communicated and meticulously upheld throughout each shift Guide the entire team in identifying and implementing ongoing service improvements Lead regular meetings with management team and hourly staff to continually fine tune operations and grow standards. Maintain the Service Manual and Side work documents as SOPs change and improve. Guest Experience Management Guide the entire staff in continuously generating praise from Hellbender's guests. Coach the entire staff in turning first time visitors into regulars Direct the entire staff in strengthening relationships with emerging regulars and turning them into a truly devoted base of Hellbender loyalists Educate and empower FOH team to gracefully recover from mistakes appropriately Ensure bar team is serving alcohol responsibly, taking care not to overserve guests. Respond to email inquiries from guests and prospective large group events. Ensure our reservations platform (RESY) is optimized to increase guest count People Practices Ensure that Hellbender hires and maintains a devoted, dependable and high-performance team by thoroughly vetting all potential FOH candidates Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly training (food, beverage, service) Provide continuous, constructive feedback and guidance to FOH team, i.e. staff members don't make mistakes, they create opportunities for improvement Fairly and consistently executing progressive disciplinary action with members of the entire staff Compliance/DOH Ensure that Hellbender remains compliant with all local, state and federal employment laws Lead the FOH team in compliance with the entire Health Department code to ensure an "A" letter grade on all sanitary inspections Operations Oversee a beverage program that is approachable and fun while maintaining costs within budget targets. Responsible for ordering, inventory, and the organization of the beverage program. Scheduling for FOH staff Implement thorough and consistent SOPs for daily service, cleanliness, and long-term training and growth Oversee invoicing for all Hellbender operations in R365. Work with cookout LLC accountant to keep track of payments and invoices. Communications Along with partners, regularly communicates relevant Hellbender news and initiatives with staff Maintain consistent communication about daily happenings, staff success, as well as their needs for improvement Performance & Profitability Guide FOH team in maximizing revenue while maintaining soul of a friendly neighborhood bar Monitor payroll on a weekly basis and proactively adjusting staff schedules based on business levels In conjunction with Partners; review, analyze and approve all pay increases Review all end of period inventories with Partners and Hellbender accounting team Aid in developing and maintaining FOH financial budgets and forecasts Assist in overall hellbender budgeting and forecasting process
Qualifications:
3+ years of restaurant management experience Excellent food and beverage knowledge, specifically in cocktails and spirits Multi-tasking, Problem solving and delegation Initiative and follow through Excellent verbal and written communication Attention to detail Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) Understanding of restaurant POS systems
Education:
Preferred Bachelor's Degree or Certification in Hospitality-related field or equivalent expertise gained from time on the job
Physical:
Involves standing most of the time, climbing stairs repeatedly, bending, stooping and frequent reaching with arms and hands while occasionally holding objects less than 20 lbs. May also include possible lifting and moving objects of 20lbs or more.
