Job Description

Position Overview Open Door Mission is seeking a compassionate, organized, and mission-driven Food and Beverage Manager to oversee our food service operations, food pantry support, and volunteer engagement efforts. This leadership position plays a vital role in providing nutritious meals and food assistance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, poverty, and crisis. The Food Service Manager will oversee kitchen operations, meal preparation, food safety compliance, inventory management, food donations, volunteer coordination, and food pantry collaboration. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values teamwork, and is committed to serving others with dignity and respect. As a Christian ministry, Open Door Mission seeks individuals who are passionate about serving their community and supporting our mission of bringing hope, help, and transformation to those in need. Essential Responsibilities Food Service Operations Oversee all daily kitchen operations, including meal planning, food preparation, and meal service. Ensure consistent quality, nutrition, and presentation of meals served to shelter guests, community members, and program participants. Maintain compliance with all food safety regulations, health department requirements, and sanitation standards. Develop and implement efficient kitchen procedures and workflows. Leadership & Staff Development Supervise kitchen staff, cooks, and food service personnel. Recruit, train, schedule, and oversee volunteers serving in food service areas. Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment that reflects the values of Open Door Mission. Conduct ongoing training in food safety, customer service, and operational procedures. Food Pantry & Donation Management Coordinate with the Food Pantry team to maximize the use of donated food resources. Oversee food receiving, storage, inventory control, and distribution practices. Manage relationships with food donors, grocery partners, gleaning programs, and community food providers. Ensure proper rotation and utilization of food inventory to minimize waste. Inventory & Budget Management Monitor inventory levels and order food, supplies, and kitchen equipment as needed. Track food costs and assist with budget management. Maintain accurate records of food purchases, donations, and inventory. Facility & Equipment Oversight Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and operating properly. Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. Mission Integration Demonstrate Christ-centered leadership in all interactions with staff, volunteers, guests, and community partners. Support Open Door Mission's commitment to treating every individual with dignity, compassion, and respect. Participate in organizational meetings, events, and ministry activities as requested. QualificationsRequired Experience in food service, kitchen management, hospitality management, or a related field. Supervisory or leadership experience. Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation practices. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Commitment to Open Door Mission's Christian mission and values. Preferred ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain certification. Experience working in a nonprofit, rescue mission, shelter, church, or community meal program. Experience coordinating volunteers. Experience managing food donations, pantry operations, or large-scale meal service. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment.
