- Full-time We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead our sheet metal fabrication operations specializing in food processing equipment.
The ideal candidate will have extensive manufacturing expertise with a strong focus on high-quality stainless steel fabrication and sanitary design. You will oversee the production floor, ensuring all equipment meets strict food-grade standards (e.g., 3-A, FDA, USDA), while managing schedules, maintaining quality, and leading a skilled team of fabricators and welders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Oversight:
Plan, schedule, and direct daily fabrication activities to ensure food processing machinery and components are manufactured efficiently and on time.
Sanitary Quality Control:
Enforce rigorous quality standards specific to the food industry. Ensure all products meet sanitary design requirements, focusing on eliminating crevices, proper drainage, and achieving food-grade surface finishes.
Technical & Welding Guidance:
Utilize your practical knowledge of sanitary TIG welding (GTAW) to guide the team. Ensure proper techniques are used for purging, minimizing weld distortion, and achieving smooth, pit-free welds suitable for food contact.
Design & Blueprint Translation:
Read and interpret technical drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD or SolidWorks . Collaborate with engineering to ensure sanitary design principles are practical and manufacturable on the shop floor.
Material Management:
Oversee the proper handling, storage, and processing of 304 and 316 stainless steel to prevent cross-contamination and preserve material integrity.
Team Leadership & Training:
Hire, train, and mentor production staff. Ensure fabricators and polishers understand the critical importance of sanitary finishes and food-safe manufacturing practices.
Process & Equipment Management:
Optimize shop workflow for sheet metal machinery (press brakes, lasers, shears, polishing stations) and implement lean manufacturing principles tailored to custom equipment builds.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
5+ years of experience as a Production Manager, Shop Foreman, or similar leadership role within a custom manufacturing or job shop environment.
Industry Expertise:
Extensive background in sheet metal fabrication with a mandatory focus on stainless steel . Direct experience manufacturing food processing, beverage, dairy, or pharmaceutical equipment is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of sanitary TIG welding standards and techniques.
Proficiency in navigating and interpreting models in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks . Knowledge of mechanical polishing and finishing techniques to achieve specific Ra (Roughness Average) values required for food-grade surfaces.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Familiarity with 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA, or USDA manufacturing guidelines for equipment design.
Soft Skills:
Decisive leadership, clear communication, and the ability to bridge the gap between engineering and the production floor.
Safety:
Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, shop safety, and the specific hazards associated with stainless steel fabrication (e.g., hexavalent chromium mitigation).
