Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Lead the production workforce in the manufacture of New Carlisle products, meeting specified schedules and productivity and quality objectives Report production, material and manpower usage, equipment and process problems on a timely and accurate basis Maintain product integrity by ensuring compliance with established manufacturing and/or quality specifications Promote the teamwork approach among shift employees and between functions Accomplish required duties through cooperative efforts with maximum employee participation in decision making Train production team members to perform job requirements in a safe and effective manner, according to established standard operating procedures Operate the facility raw material batching systems Coordinate assigned maintenance assistance to prevent or repair equipment malfunctions or damage to minimize downtime Recommend improvements and/or modifications to equipment, processes and procedures to increase productivity and efficiency Help provide input to Production manager for regular team meetings to share information, discuss problems, priorities and opportunities, resolve conflicts and develop team building Monitor personnel and equipment for unsafe acts or conditions and correct them immediately Provide leadership to the Furnacing team and plant-wide involvement groups in order to drive continuous improvement in the facility Responsible for payroll functions for employees in the Furnacing department (reviewing/approving time off requests, timecard review/approval, etc.) Assist Technical and Marketing in new product testing and development and process improvement implementation and to initiate plant system and equipment improvements The position will require the individual to work overtime to provide shift coverage for vacations and the start-up of additional manufacturing processes Other duties as assigned Work overtime as needed Drive Safety Lead the departmental safety strategy in alignment with the Site Safety Strategy Drive excellence in safety culture and systems. Safety as our #1 focus Support employees in removing barriers to drive safety improvements Conduct Safety Gemba (Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma) verifying safe behaviors, correcting physical hazards and validating adherence to policies Manage People Define and enforce clear areas of ownership and accountability to meet key objectives Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results Create a trusting relationship with peers and reports Conduct monthly coaching sessions with direct reports to develop leadership and achieve results Demonstrate integrity through behavior and encourage others to do the same. Be relied upon to do the right thing Build a high performing team through identifying and supporting high potential employees and identify/manage/replace employees that are underperforming Drive Quality Collaborate with Quality Manager to execute a quality improvement plan for the facility Address necessary short- and long-term improvements to reduce customer complaints Manage adherence to departmental Quality Control Plan using leading indicators such as meeting Control Plans and improving Process Capability to ensure product quality Manage conformance to customer specifications and to maintain ISO certification departmentally Use suitable problem-solving methodology to reduce variability in manufacturing processes and minimize process scrap Drive Operational Performance / Control Cost Achieve departmental performance targets that drive cost of production (OEE, Labor efficiency, Weekly Absorption) Ensure Continuous Improvement methodology across department, incorporating lean tools and capitalizing on best practice reapplication to meet/exceed cost savings targets Work with Maintenance Manager to ensure Engineering Reliability is improved year over year, and targets achieved as a minimum Work with Production Planning Department to ensure customer satisfaction with OTIF efficiency
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required
Experience:
  • 3+ years of related experience focused within Manufacturing Operations as a leader, particularly in continuous, high-volume operation
  • Knowledge of supply chain, planning and logistics activities
  • Experience of practical application of Lean, TPM and/or Six Sigma tools
  • Experience of responsibility for departmental safety and quality aspects of operations
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of computers and computer programs
  • Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision
  • Self-starter capable of operating independently
  • Must be able to maintain expected quality levels
  • Comply with all site required policies and procedures
  • Ability to organize high volumes of work and information
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills

  • Occasional bending, reaching, pushing and pulling when retrieving and moving various items
  • Lifting intermittently of various items. Typically, assistance would be provided for weights exceeding 50 pounds
  • Good manual dexterity to operate computer equipment and precision measuring instruments
  • Verbal communication via telephone or in person while interacting with customers, suppliers, or other employees
  • Position may require more than eight hours daily and more than five days weekly to complete work assignments
  • Sitting in chairs (swivel, padded, and adjustable)
  • Squatting / crouching when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, making equipment / product inspections, etc.
  • Standing intermittently
  • Visual monitoring of computer screens

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The duties of this position are performed throughout the entire floor space of Alkegen. Duties are performed primarily in an office setting but are occasionally performed in manufacturing areas where compliance with applicable safety rules is required. The noise level is light to moderate. During periods of travel, duties could be performed in conference centers, restaurants, places of public accommodation, modes of travel, etc.
