GENERAL SUMMARY/ PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Assistant Audio Lead Engineer serves as the second-in-command of the Audio Department and supports the Head of Audio in delivering consistent, high-quality audio execution across all shows. This role bridges technical execution, crew coordination, equipment oversight, and training, while working closely with Project Managers across multiple locations. The position carries both leadership and hands-on responsibilities and is critical to maintaining operational standards, staff readiness, and show quality. Core Responsibilities • Show Execution & Project Coordination Lead and manage audio for assigned shows, acting as the primary audio contact for Project Managers based in the South San Francisco office and at the San Jose Convention Center Collaborate with Project Managers during pre-production, load-in, show days, and strike to ensure audio requirements are met Support the Head of Audio on large-scale or complex projects, including system planning, deployment, and troubleshooting Step into the Audio Lead role as needed in the Head of Audio's absence Staffing & Crew Oversight Coordinate and assign audio staff for shows, ensuring appropriate skill levels and coverage Assist with scheduling, staffing plans, and freelance coordination Provide on-site leadership and mentorship to audio crew members Equipment Quality Control & Warehouse Support Oversee quality control of audio equipment returning from rentals and shows Ensure gear is properly tested, documented, and restored to ready-to-deploy condition Communicate equipment issues, repairs, and losses to the Head of Audio and warehouse leadership Work collaboratively with warehouse staff to maintain organization and readiness of audio inventory Training & Standardization Train and support local warehouse technicians in audio systems, signal flow, prep standards, and QC procedures Assist in developing and maintaining audio department SOPs and best practices Promote consistency and professionalism across all audio operations Non-Show Week Responsibilities On non-show weeks, a minimum of two (2) days will be spent working in the warehouse supporting warehouse operations, training, prep, and department initiatives. The remainder of the may be used to work from home. Assist with system maintenance, documentation, and process improvements Expectations & Accountability Maintain a high standard of audio quality across all shows Communicate clearly and proactively with Project Managers, crew, and department leadership Act as a department leader, setting expectations through professionalism, preparedness, and technical excellence Identify potential issues early and work toward practical solutions Reporting Structure Reports directly to the Head of Audio Works closely with Project Managers, warehouse staff, and audio technicians across all locations
