Job Description

Bakery Manager Baguette Magic | Charleston, SC Hi, I'm Paula, owner of Baguette Magic. I'm looking for a Bakery Manager who wants to do more than manage production. I'm looking for someone who wants to help build something. Baguette Magic started when my sister and I purchased a small neighborhood bakery in 2019. At the time, neither of us knew much about baking. What we did know was how to work hard, learn quickly, surround ourselves with great people, and solve problems one step at a time. Since then, we've grown into multiple retail locations, a dedicated production facility, and a team that produces thousands of baked goods every week. Now we're looking ahead to the next phase of growth, and we're searching for a leader who wants to grow alongside us. About the Role The Bakery Manager will oversee daily production, team leadership, inventory management, scheduling, facility maintenance, and operational systems across our production facility. This role requires someone who can move comfortably between the production floor and the office. One moment you may be troubleshooting croissant lamination, and the next you may be reviewing labor costs, managing inventory, evaluating equipment purchases, or helping build systems that support future growth. Initially, I want this person to spend time learning our recipes, systems, team, and culture. Once they have a strong understanding of how we operate today, I want them to help us evaluate how we can operate even better tomorrow. What You'll Be Responsible ForProduction & Quality Lead daily bread and laminated pastry production Ensure consistency, quality, and execution of all recipes and standards Assist with production as needed during peak periods Maintain food safety and sanitation standards Troubleshoot production challenges and identify opportunities for improvement Team Leadership Lead, train, and develop a bakery team of approximately 8 employees Create and manage schedules Coach and mentor team members Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback Foster a culture of accountability, growth, and teamwork Operations & Administration Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships Monitor food costs, waste, and production efficiency Maintain production schedules and forecasting systems Assist with payroll review and labor management Ensure facility maintenance and equipment needs are proactively addressed Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance programs Growth & Strategic Planning Learn and understand our current systems and workflows Review and analyze production data, labor reports, P&Ls, and product mix reports Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability Assist with production scaling and future retail growth Help evaluate equipment purchases, production capacity, and operational investments Contribute ideas and solutions that help position the company for long-term success What We're Looking ForRequired Experience Bread production experience Laminated pastry experience Previous leadership or management experience in a bakery or food production environment Experience with scheduling, inventory management, and ordering Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to lead by example and earn the respect of a team Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a production environment What Would Excite Me Someone who understands a P&L and wants to learn how business decisions affect profitability Experience implementing new equipment, production systems, or facility improvements Experience scaling production or supporting growth across multiple locations Curiosity about operations, efficiency, and continuous improvement Someone who enjoys solving problems and finding better ways to do things A Note About Growth This is the most important part of the job description. I am absolutely willing to invest in someone who has experience growing bakery operations, implementing new equipment, analyzing costs, and helping businesses scale. But I'm equally willing to invest in someone who has a strong foundation, a great attitude, and a genuine desire to learn. Some of the best decisions we've made as a company have come from people who didn't necessarily have all the experience on day one but were driven enough to figure things out. What matters most to me is finding someone who is curious, adaptable, accountable, and excited by growth. The person who succeeds in this role won't just be managing today's bakery. They'll be helping us build the bakery we're becoming. As we continue to grow throughout Charleston and explore opportunities beyond it, I want someone who sees themselves as part of that journey. Someone who wants a long-term home where they can continue learning, taking on new challenges, and helping shape the future of the company. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience 10% Quarterly KPI Bonus Structure Accrual Based Paid time off Employee discounts at all concepts Professional growth opportunities Opportunity to help shape the future direction of an expanding bakery company Collaborative and entrepreneurial work environment If you're passionate about bread, pastry, leadership, problem-solving, and building something meaningful, I'd love to hear from you.
