The Kitchen Manager is accountable for maintaining a clean, organized, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment while ensuring compliance with food safety standards, nutrition guidelines, and licensing requirements. The Kitchen Manager works closely with administration, direct care staff, nursing staff, and program leadership to provide nutritious meals and snacks that meet the dietary, cultural, medical, and developmental needs of the residents. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage food inventory, ordering, meal planning, documentation, and kitchen sanitation. Schedule Full-Time Position 8-Hour Shifts 5 Days Per Week One Weekend Day Off and One Weekday Off Flexible schedule as required by program needs Responsibilities Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for youth ages 7-18 in accordance with approved menus and dietary requirements. Ensure all meals are prepared safely and served on time according to the daily program schedule. Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health department, and licensing regulations. Ensure proper food storage, labeling, dating, and rotation procedures are followed at all times. Monitor kitchen inventory and maintain adequate food and supply levels. Order food, kitchen supplies, and cleaning products while maintaining budget awareness. Maintain accurate records of food purchases, inventories, temperatures, cleaning schedules, and meal service documentation. Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and report repair needs immediately. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly kitchen cleaning assignments. Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen areas, refrigerators, freezers, pantries, and storage rooms. Ensure compliance with special dietary needs, food allergies, medical diets, and physician recommendations. Coordinate with nursing and program staff regarding resident dietary restrictions and nutritional needs. Train and supervise staff assigned to assist with meal preparation or kitchen duties. Participate in food safety inspections and licensing reviews as required. Ensure all residents receive meals, snacks, and beverages in accordance with program schedules and licensing standards. Monitor food waste and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs. Maintain a professional and respectful environment while interacting with residents, staff, vendors, and visitors. Participate in orientation, training, staff meetings, and continuing education programs as required. Complete Direct Care Specialist training and Kitchen Management training as assigned. Assist during emergencies and support program operations as needed. Report any concerns affecting resident health, safety, or nutrition immediately to management. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Program Director, Compliance Director, or management team. Required Skills and Qualifications Strong cooking and meal preparation skills. Ability to prepare meals for multiple residents while maintaining quality and consistency. Strong organizational and inventory management skills. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. Must be dependable, professional, and able to work in a residential treatment setting serving youth. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record. Current Food Manager Certification (required). Ability to pass all required background checks. Ability to complete Direct Care Specialist Training and all required agency trainings. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a Kitchen Manager, Cook, Dietary Manager, Food Service Supervisor, or similar position. Experience working in a residential treatment center, group home, foster care setting, school cafeteria, hospital, or institutional kitchen. Experience preparing meals for large groups. Knowledge of Texas DFPS Minimum Standards and residential care environments. Experience with inventory management, purchasing, and vendor coordination.
Compensation Salary:
$35,000 - $40,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated performance. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. Ability to lift and carry food supplies, boxes, and kitchen equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.
