Job Description
Canoe Island French Camp, a French language and outdoor summer camp, located on a private 45-acre island off the coast of Washington State, is looking for a chef to cook excellent meals for 80 enthusiastic campers and staff. Our kitchen staff includes a chef (you?!) along with a second professional chef who is skilled in breads/baked goods, along with four volunteer, teenage assistants who help with prep and dishes. The kitchen team prepares 3 meals a day from scratch; the meals are sometimes French or Francophone-inspired.
This position starts as soon as possible, ideally mid-May, and runs through late September. The chef position is 6 days a week. Pay is $185 per day. Private room and board in lovely house overlooking the Salish Sea. Amenities include swimming pool, tennis court, kayaks, canoes.
The ideal candidate will have experience professional kitchen experience or catering experience. Our chef should be able to independently plan and execute a meal for 80 people from scratch. Experience with French cuisine a plus.
Must tolerate children and living in small community with young/energetic staff. Must be calm and patient. Our organization values kindness, respect, and healthy communication, and we ask our chefs to uphold these values.
