About Madison Park Bakery Madison Park Bakery is a neighborhood institution in one of Seattle's most beloved residential communities. We are a scratch bakery and café committed to quality ingredients, warm hospitality, and a genuine connection to the people who walk through our door every day. We are looking for a Bakery Manager who will help us build the systems, culture, and operational foundation that allows our team to thrive and our guests to keep coming back. Role Overview This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity. The Bakery Manager will have a clean slate to design and implement the operational structure of the bakery—from standard operating procedures and inventory systems to production scheduling and team development. You will own both the front-of-house experience and the back-of-house production floor, with a mandate to maximize output, minimize unnecessary labor cost, and grow sales in a community-focused environment. This role is equal parts strategist, operator, and people leader. Key Responsibilities Operations & Systems Development Design and implement comprehensive SOPs for all bakery functions—opening and closing procedures, production workflows, cleaning protocols, and customer service standards Build and maintain an organized inventory system including par levels, ordering schedules, and vendor relationships Establish production planning tools and daily prep checklists to ensure consistent output and reduce waste Identify and eliminate inefficiencies across the operation to optimize labor spend and throughput Create and maintain a recipe library and costing documentation for all menu items Back of House - Production Management Oversee daily baking production, including scheduling of all BOH preparation relative to projected volume Ensure product quality, consistency, and presentation standards are upheld across all items Monitor batch yields and adjust production volumes to minimize spoilage and out-of-stock situations Collaborate with ownership on seasonal menu development and new product introductions Maintain all equipment and flag maintenance needs proactively Front of House - Guest Experience Set the tone for a warm, neighborhood-caliber service culture at the counter Be present on the floor and lead by example during peak service hours Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally, turning feedback into improvement Ensure FOH presentation—display cases, pastry cases, signage, and seating—is always guest-ready Partner with ownership on seasonal promotions, events, and community engagement Team Leadership Hire, onboard, train, and retain a high-performing team of bakers and café staff Create and manage weekly schedules that balance service demands and labor targets Conduct regular 1:1 check-ins and performance conversations with direct reports Foster a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous learning Address performance and conduct issues promptly and in accordance with company policy Financial & Sales Optimization Track and report on key metrics: daily sales, labor percentage, waste, and COGS Identify and act on opportunities to grow revenue through upselling, retail display, and product mix optimization Collaborate with ownership on pricing reviews and cost analyses Maintain purchasing discipline and vendor accountability to protect margins Qualifications Required Minimum 2 years of management experience in a bakery, café, or comparable food service environment 2-year minimum commitment to the role Demonstrated ability to build or rebuild operational systems from the ground up Proven track record of leading and developing a team in a hands-on environment Strong communication skills with guests, team members, and ownership Comfort working directly with customers in a community-oriented, neighborhood setting Proficiency in scheduling, inventory management, and basic financial reporting Servsafe certification or willingness to obtain prior to start Preferred Experience in scratch baking or pastry production Familiarity with POS systems (Clover preferred) Experience working with payroll, HR documentation, or employee onboarding processes Bilingual a plus What We Offer Competitive salary commensurate with experience A meaningful leadership role with real ownership over operations and culture Direct partnership with ownership in shaping the future of the bakery A tight-knit, community-rooted work environment in one of Seattle's most desirable neighborhoods The opportunity to build something that lasts
