Job Summary The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor in providing leadership for the unit and staff. This will include assuring standards of care are followed while promoting teamwork and professional staff development; ensuring all required education is provided, competencies are maintained and individual mentoring is provided as needed. The Lead Respiratory Care Practitioner will aid in managing daily operations and patient flow; coordination of personnel, resources and equipment. This position will provide leadership and support to staff in the absence of the Respiratory Services Supervisor. Essential Functions
- Coordinates preceptorship and orientation of staff, tracking of competency validation and education. Mentors and supports activities that promote professional development
- Identifies educational needs and opportunities to improve processes and patient care.
- Develops, plans, and provides in-service offerings.
- Develops and creates patient education materials.
- Reviews, tracks, and orders patient education materials.
- Tracks and follows up on incident reports.
- Participates in interviews, hiring and performance evaluations of staff.
- Coordinates staff schedule for daily operations and ensures patient care assignments are based on staffing guidelines.
- Assists Supervisor with product evaluation and cost-effective management of supplies and equipment.
- Assists Supervisor with application of Standards of Practice and quality improvement.
- Provides input into development and implementation of unit budget.
- Supports staff with problem solving and decision-making concerning patients, families, medical staff and public agencies.
- Leads and assists with staff meetings, as requested.
- Conducts research to support evidence-based practice.
- Conduct rounds for safety, infection control, and patient satisfaction. Other Duties
- Orders unit supplies as needed.
- Participates in organizational committees as requested.
- Conducts trainings and workshops for various competencies.

Abilities This position requires general respiratory care practitioner skills and knowledge of equipment including ventilators. blood gas analyzers, EKG and EEG machines and stress equipment, telephone system, fax machine, and copy machine all equipment utilized in the cardiopulmonary department as well as excellent computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills. This position also requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including the Hospital Information System. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Proficient in the time-keeping system.
- Full supervisory responsibilities such as: (1) providing daily work direction; (2) approval of absences or overtime; and (3) recommendations and/or approval regarding hiring, terminations, pay changes, or job changes.
- Partially accountable for budgetary preparation/compliance under the direction of the unit director.
- Partially accountable for control of capital assets under the direction of the department director.
- Partially accountable for long-range operational planning in collaboration with the department director.

Physical Demands Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The worker is subject to substantial overtime, evening meetings, on-call status, contact with chemicals, contact with infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, extensive close work, extensive computer work, and encounters with upset/disturbed individuals. Required Education and Experience
- AZ RCP license
- CPR/BLS Certification
- NRP Certification (within 6 months of hire date)
- ACLS Certification (within 6 months of hire date)
- PALS Certification (within 6 months of hire date) Maintain at least one credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (CRT or RRT)
- Four (4) years' recent experience in a clinical setting
- Reside within one (1) hour travel time of
