This position supervises the daily operation of the District's wastewater treatment facility including primary, secondary, tertiary, and solids treatment processes; performs administrative and managerial duties including training and evaluating plant personnel; schedules work assignments; maintains appropriate records and logs; and monitors the use of chemicals.
Typical duties include:
Directing and assisting in the start-up, maintenance, operation, inspection, and shutdown of all major plant equipment. Utilizing a centralized computer control and process monitoring system to observe plant processes and equipment functions, evaluate data received, and make appropriate changes to maintain an efficient process. Identifying mechanical, electrical, instrument, and equipment problems, deficiencies, and malfunctions; and documenting concerns. Monitoring, coordinating, and responding to plant emergencies and security problems. The Ideal Candidate This position requires an individual who can work independently and interact with a variety of staff in the organization, other agencies, and the public while supplying the highest level of customer service.
The ideal candidate should possess:
Knowledge of advanced wastewater treatment processes including primary, secondary, tertiary, and solids processes, and Federal, State, and local regulations. Knowledge of equipment including centrifuges, steam turbines, centrifugal blowers, multiple hearth furnaces, electrical power production utilizing co-generation and emergency generators, ultraviolet disinfection, and water tube and fire tube boilers. Knowledge of safety precautions including, but not limited to, Cal/OSHA General Industry Safety Orders, the District's Respiratory Protection Program, and Safety Directives. Ability to perform process control tests and adjust plant operations accordingly. Experience in supervising and training personnel. Experience in maintaining and adjusting operating schedules to meet changing conditions or emergencies.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Experience:
Four years of full-time wastewater treatment plant operations experience, including at least two (2) years of lead responsibility.
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a California State Water Resources Board Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certificate. Must obtain Grade IV within two years of hire.
