Job Description
We are looking for a Kitchen shift lead to drive a high production kitchen. This is a high pressure position. You will need to be a strong leader with drive. A Kitchen shift lead who is successful will have the chance to advance to a store manager with proper training. Part of this role is to train new staff, order all kitchen supplies, and drive food safety standards. Previous Casey's experience will be highly valuable, but we will train the right person.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of the store leadership team, assist in executing Casey's strategic initiatives, driving sales, and maintaining quality and service standards within the store, especially within the kitchen. Contribute to a fun and supportive workplace culture where Team Members can learn, grow, and succeed. Model and coach to Casey's CARES values (Commitment, Authenticity, Respect, Evolving, Service). Partner with Store Manager on recruiting, onboarding, and workforce management, including reviewing and managing applications, performing phone screens and in-person interviews, providing hiring recommendations, and providing feedback for performance management processes for Kitchen Team Members. Train and coach Kitchen Team Members. Provide support to the Store Manager, or back-up in the Manager's absence, on Store Manager duties. Work directly with the Store Manager to establish work schedules to assure that all work assignments are covered each day for the kitchen, filling in where necessary. Assist with merchandise orders and management of kitchen inventory. Follow asset protection processes and accurately complete required audits to protect company assets. Ensure prepared food products are consistently prepared to Company standards. Responsible for ensuring cleaning procedures are followed and properly maintained in the kitchen. Ensure Team Members are certified in food handling safety and consistently adhere to the established procedures. Partner with Store Manager to implement Action Plans to correct underperforming prepared food categories and/or profitability results in sales, margin, cleanliness, and staffing to ensure Company standards. Manage guest feedback related to prepared food quality or Kitchen Team Member guest service. Keep the Store Manager informed of guest concerns. Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Basic knowledge of food preparation, and kitchen safety and sanitation. Effective leadership, communication, and guest-relations skills. Ability to effectively perform conflict intervention and resolution for both Team Members and guests. Basic reading, writing, computer, software, and math skills and the ability to adapt to changes with workplace technology. General understanding of kitchen related business concepts or ability to learn and make sound business decisions. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent strongly preferred, but less formal education with more on the-job experience may be substituted. Previous experience in people leadership preferred—preferably in restaurant or food service industry, or convenience store operations preferred. Other Requirements Must be flexible to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions Work is performed in a store setting with fluctuating temperatures (kitchen, cooler, freezer, indoors, outdoors) and near other Team Members and guests. The job requires the ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing; the ability to hear and understand speech and other sounds; and the ability to use eyesight to complete tasks. The Kitchen Manager must be able to frequently (46-100% of the workday): o Stand and/or walk o Lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds o Use repetitive motions with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers (keying, operating point of sale system, other electronic devices) o Reach (shoulder to waist and waist to floor) The Kitchen Manager must be able to occasionally (16-45% of the workday): o Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds o Push/pull (e.g., carts, dollies, sweeping/mopping, pushing floor cleaner) o Bend/stoop/crouch o Reach above shoulder level The Kitchen Manager must be able to rarely (1-15% percent of the workday) o Lift/carry over 50 lbs. o Climb (on ladders/step stools to reach high shelves/surfaces)
