POSITION SUMMARY
The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for ensuring quality nursing care and providing overall supervision of nursing staff members during a designated shift. This includes developing work schedules to ensure adequate unit coverage and overseeing nursing care delivery for admissions during the shift. The Nurse Supervisor must have a comprehensive understanding of the administrative and nursing policies, procedures, and community resources. In the Nurse Manager's absence, the Nurse Supervisor is responsible for initiating disciplinary action during the assigned shift.QUALIFICATIONS
- Status as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (preferred).
- Three to five years of experience, with one to two years of supervisory experience/charge nurse experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below describe the general nature and level of work performed by the Nurse Supervisor. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Nurse Manager to meet the needs of Brightwell.- Uses the nursing process to ensure appropriate delivery of nursing care.
- Has a working knowledge of Brightwell's administrative and nursing services policies and procedures.
- Adjusts staffing as needed to ensure proper coverage according to designated staff/patient ratios in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
- Responsible for replacing staff who are unable to work their scheduled shift.
- Familiar with staffing schedules and matrices to ensure appropriate staffing ratios.
- Generally responsible for covering the shift and performing Staff Nurse duties when needed.
- Monitors and evaluates nursing care through chart audits and staff documentation to ensure compliance with nursing policies and procedures.
- Provides supervision to staff nurses and behavioral care specialists, including initiating disciplinary actions during the shift.
- Participates with the CNO and other nursing managers in developing therapeutic programs for the unit, particularly for the designated shift.
- Serves as a role model for quality nursing care.
- Participates in orientation programs for new employees and provides in-service education as needed.
- Serves as a preceptor for new employees or coordinates orientation with the preceptor designated by the CNO for the specific shift.
- Directly responsible for admissions during the shift, ensuring compliance with admission policies and procedures.
- Receives intake information and verifies admissions with the Medical Director or Designee physician.
- Directs activities during emergencies, including fires, disasters, and environmental hazards, following established procedures.
- Participates in staff evaluations in collaboration with the Nurse Managers.
- Applies restraints or imposes seclusion in emergencies, notifying the patient's physician as soon as possible, per the Seclusion and Restraint Policy.
- Administers medication and ensures patients and families are oriented to the Trillium and the unit.
- Teaches patients and families about coping skills, medications, infection control, and general health maintenance.
- Follows Dress Code rules and serves as a role model for patients and new employees.
- Enforces Brightwell's expectations regarding Time and Attendance for all shift nursing staff.
- Maintains BLS/CPR certification and proficiency in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Acts as a Staff Nurse when designated by the Nurse Manager.
- Performs other duties in a willing manner, including assisting Staff Nurses, LPNs, BCSs, and other non-professional staff, as requested by the Nurse Manager.
