Full-Time Position Summary The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA) is seeking a Food Service Director to join its founding team for the Fall 2026 school opening. The Food Service Director is responsible for the overall administration, management, and compliance of the Academy's food service program. This position oversees all aspects of meal planning, procurement, budgeting, staffing, food production, inventory management, and regulatory compliance associated with the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, financial management, and food service operations experience while ensuring students receive high-quality, nutritious meals in a safe and efficient environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Administration Administer the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program in compliance with all federal regulations, state requirements, and Academy policies. Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable food service laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. Prepare and submit all required reimbursement requests and program documentation. Develop and implement procedures that support efficient food service operations. Financial Management Monitor and manage the food service budget. Implement financial controls to oversee program revenues and expenditures. Analyze financial performance and recommend improvements when necessary. Develop cost-containment strategies while maintaining service quality. Ensure proper cash handling and accountability procedures. Food Service Operations Plan, direct, and evaluate food production, distribution, storage, merchandising, and meal service operations. Coordinate menu implementation, special meals, and operational adjustments as necessary. Oversee inventory management and ensure adequate food and supply levels.
Administer systems for:
Food production Equipment selection and maintenance Inventory control Receiving and storage procedures Distribution processes Work simplification and efficiency improvements Staffing and Leadership Assist in developing staffing plans and recommendations for new positions. Participate in employee recruitment and hiring processes. Supervise, train, evaluate, and support food service staff. Develop staff schedules and assign duties as needed. Foster a positive, productive, and customer-focused work environment. Program Development and Evaluation Identify program needs and opportunities for improvement. Establish program goals and performance objectives. Monitor program effectiveness and implement improvements when necessary. Collaborate with school leadership regarding food service operations and student nutrition initiatives. Perform additional professional duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience. Previous food service management experience required. Experience with PrideWare software preferred. Knowledge of federal and state school nutrition program requirements preferred. Strong organizational, leadership, budgeting, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, vendors, administrators, and regulatory agencies. Drug-Free Workplace Requirement The Food Service Director must remain free from alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment with the Academy. Physical and Environmental Requirements Frequent standing and walking throughout school buildings and facilities. Ability to stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, and move throughout work areas. Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds. Ability to utilize sight, hearing, smell, and touch effectively while performing assigned duties. Ability to use computers, keyboards, and data entry systems. Ability to maintain hand-eye coordination for reporting and administrative functions.
