Food Service Director:
2026-2027 SY Position Details Union City Community Schools seeks to fill a full-time Food Service Director position beginning in July of 2026. The Food Service Director manages all aspects of the food service department and ensures our food service operations are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and operate within all federal, state, and local regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Food Service Management, Dietetics, or equivalent. Minimum of three years in K-12 school setting Experience in institutional food preparation, kitchen management and materials procurement is required. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee daily food service operations across all district buildings, including breakfast, lunch, and special events Plan, develop, and evaluate menus based on nutritional requirements, budget, and input from students, staff, and families Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety, sanitation, and
OSHA/MIOSHA
standards Manage all aspects of the food service budget, including purchasing, inventory, procurement, and audit processes Supervise, support, and evaluate food service staff while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture Communicate effectively with administrators, staff, students, families, vendors, and regulatory agencies Oversee free and reduced lunch processes, including accurate data collection, reporting, and reimbursement claims Coordinate with vendors on ordering, pricing, delivery, and product quality Maintain high standards for kitchen operations, equipment care, and overall program efficiency, including long-term equipment planning Utilize technology systems, including point-of-sale and food service management platforms, to support operations and decision-making Monitor participation and implement strategies to increase student engagement in meal programs Support district goals through effective and efficient food service programming Manage summer food service programming as applicable Provide training and ongoing professional development for staff and step into operational roles as needed Perform other duties as assigned This document is intended to describe the general nature and level of the work performed by those assigned to this job.
