FOOD AND AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT CENTER DIRECTOR

Headwaters RC&D Area, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The organization receives funding from federal, state, and local governments, private organizations, and foundations. Headwaters administers multiple grant programs and loan programs for businesses through the Food and Ag Program. The organization operates in a joint venture with Butte Local Development Corporation (BLDC), and serves 7 counties in Southwest Montana. SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTIONS
Will work to innovate and grow businesses that produce and commercialize food, and agricultural and renewable energy products and processes, thus creating wealth and jobs in our communities and on our farms and ranches. SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Writing grant applications to enhance the capacity of the Food and Ag Center and providing technical grant writing assistance for food, agriculture, and energy clients, including Growth through Agriculture, Value Added Producer, and the Rural Energy for America Program. Facilitating and executing Food and Ag/Specialty Crop-related program objectives and reporting quarterly (or as needed) progress to program funders. Participating in network development/strategic planning process and collaborating with the Department of Agriculture and its partners for state-wide and local initiatives. Facilitating quarterly food system meetings. Providing business planning technical assistance to potential value-added businesses. Identifying and meeting with potential value-added businesses. Exploring grant opportunities for agricultural economic analysis, including the Specialty Crop Block Grant. Working with internal and external partners to market and cross-promote client businesses, funding, and training opportunities. Responding to all food and agriculture inquiries. Managing a client database in program software, and keeping impeccable files for occasional audits. Maintaining confidentiality in all Headwaters and BLDC matters. Other work as necessary to meet federal, state, and grant reporting requirements and to ensure the smooth operation of the office. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from a college or university, in business, public administration, planning, marketing, communications, or a related field. Some experience in economic and/or community development; working with natural resources; or an equivalent combination of training and experience would be beneficial. The successful candidate should demonstrate previous experience in program management and have some understanding of basic accounting principles. A background in agriculture is not required. ABILITIES
This position requires the ability to communicate through clear and effective communications, both oral and written; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients; local, state, and federal agencies; local development organizations; community business groups; existing lenders; co-workers; board members; and the general public. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a good safety record and have proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Further, this position may require some travel and the ability to represent Headwaters RC&D at evening and/or weekend meetings. This position requires the ability to promote team building and professionalism with all staff in a cooperative and appropriate manner. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Additional requirements include: Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license, and be able to travel upon request. Office hours are generally 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. with occasional early morning, lunch hour, or evening and weekend work required. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) job that will be performed in an office environment. Work is performed in the office as well as at vendor/agency offices and other meeting or project sites. Work is in a normal office environment with noise levels that are usually moderate. Working conditions require high attention to detail and the need to meet frequent deadlines. Job Type:
