Role Purpose Responsible for day-to-day supervision of shift personnel supporting Research Melting operations. The role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient execution of shift activities by monitoring department conditions, coordinating work, and support to employees that meet operational priorities.Key Responsibilities Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with safety training, PPE use, and safe work practices Serve as the point person for shift status, priorities, and key handoffs across stakeholders Set clear expectations and objectives for the team and reinforce them consistently Monitor team rotation and overall shift performance; address issues quickly Support department housekeeping by keeping tools, materials, and workspaces clean and in order adhering to 5S expectations Provide day-to-day support and direct technical assistance to resolve process and operational issues Track and support training and qualification progress for shift personnel Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and standard work Coordinate shift execution to support meeting internal customer objectives - ensure an elevated level of internal customer satisfaction Required Education 4 year degree in an Engineering discipline or 5 years of experience - supervisory or relevant technical experience People leadership: Manage performance day-to-day; sets clear expectations and follows through Communication & people skills: Communicates clearly across operators, peers, and leaders; builds productive working relationships Coaching & mentoring: Continuously mentors, coaches, and teaches to build capability on the shift Conflict resolution: Address issues directly and respectfully to restore alignment and accountability Problem solving: Demonstrates strong troubleshooting and root-cause thinking Situation assessment & problem definition: Quickly assesses conditions and defines the problem clearly before acting Decision-making under pressure: Makes sound decisions, manages to SOP, and acts calmly during upsets or urgent situations Prioritization & multitasking: Manages multiple priorities at once while keeping the shift on track Basic computer skills: Uses standard computer tools for communication, documentation, and daily work tasks Desired Experiences Prior supervisory experience: Experience leading teams on shift, setting expectations, and supporting performance Glass melting & forming fundamentals: Working knowledge of glass melting and forming processes 5S capability: Completed 5S training and has applied it in a shop-floor environment Basic electrical fundamentals: Comfortable with basic electrical concepts relevant to equipment troubleshooting and safe work practices Materials science / engineering exposure: Familiarity with materials science or engineering concepts that support process understanding and improvement Technical fundamentals (process/engineering): Applies strong technical fundamentals to support process development and improvement Mechanical aptitude: Demonstrates practical equipment understanding and mechanical awareness This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $63,086.00 - $86,743.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
