Compensation:
Seasonal stipend of $2,700 + housing and meals included Reports to: Foodservice Manager/Dietitian; Camp Director To apply : https://app.viewsemr.com/job/775fe9a1-5d55-4549-9c58-e40e37d5ad36/apply Position Summary The Camp Kitchen Manager oversees all daily kitchen and meal service operations for a residential summer camp serving youth living with diabetes. This role is responsible for leading food production, supervising kitchen staff, ensuring food safety compliance, and delivering high-quality meals that meet the medical and dietary needs of campers and staff (menu is predetermined with some flexibility). The ideal candidate is a strong culinary leader who thrives in a fast-paced camp setting, values teamwork, and understands the importance of consistency and reliability in a residential diabetes camp program. Key Responsibilities Lead all back-of-house kitchen operations during orientation and camp sessions Plan, prep, cook, and serve meals according to established camp menus and schedules Supervise and delegate tasks to kitchen assistant and nutrition staff Ensure all meals are prepared on time for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and temperature control standards Oversee proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and inventory management Coordinate and complete occasional local purchasing of food and kitchen supplies (e.g., grocery stores or farmers markets) to supplement inventory as needed Collaborate with Camp Dietitian and nutrition staff to accommodate: Balanced, carbohydrate-counted meals (Dietitian does carb count) food allergies dietary restrictions: gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, etc. Monitor portion consistency and recipe execution Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment Assist with ordering, receiving, and tracking food and supplies Troubleshoot kitchen operational issues quickly and professionally Model professionalism, flexibility, and calm leadership under pressure Qualifications Previous experience as a lead cook, chef, sous chef, or kitchen manager Experience in high-volume foodservice, camps, schools, healthcare, or institutional dining strongly preferred Strong leadership, delegation, and staff supervision skills Knowledge of food allergies and special dietary accommodations preferred ServSafe certification or equivalent food safety training, or willingness to obtain Ability to work long, physically active days in a residential camp environment Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills Dependable, adaptable, and able to commit to the full camp duration Experience working with youth-serving organizations is a plus Reliable transportation Physical Requirements Stand for extended periods Lift and carry up to 40 pounds Work in hot kitchen environments Bend, reach, push, pull, and transport food carts or supplies Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends during camp Housing and Camp Benefits This residential summer role includes: Air-conditioned on-site housing Private bedroom accommodations Shared bathroom facilities All meals and snacks provided Opportunity to be part of a meaningful program serving youth with diabetes Immersive camp community experience in a supportive team environment
