As NeededDescription:
Provide support for cafeteria and food service operations throughout the district. The Food Service Floater works cooperatively with cafeteria staff at various school buildings to assist with food preparation, serving, cashiering, cleaning, and overall cafeteria operations as assigned. This position may travel between buildings based on staffing and operational needs.NOTE:
The below lists are not ranked in order of importanceEssential Functions:
- Prepare food, serve food, and clean cafeteria equipment/areas as assigned by Cafeteria Manager or Lead
- Work cooperatively with all other food service employees
- Observe rules, cleanliness and adhere to appropriate personal hygiene
- Exercise care and safety in carrying out job duties
- Perform specific duties as assigned by supervisors
- Operate cash register or point of sale technology as needed
- Dispose of food in disposal unit and waste containers
- Operate dish washing machine and/or wash dishes by hand that ensures sterilizing of all dishes, silverware and utensils
- Clean up all spills
- Clean all counters and tables both in the kitchen and cafeteria
- Help prepare food, make sandwiches, cut pies, cakes, cheese, etc., peel raw vegetables, move all food to serving counters
- Move food and parcels to and from freezers, refrigerators and warming units
- Adhere to rigid sanitary standards in work and attire
- Assemble food for transfer to other school buildings
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., free and reduced lunch students
- Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Baker and Cook in other related duties as requested/assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned by Cafeteria Manager or Lead
About You:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Positive attitude for cooking and serving food
- Must be able to operate a cash register and point of sale technology, make change and be bondable
- Must be of good character and morally above reproach in contact with fellow workers, administrators, teachers and students
- Willing and capable of working with students and working one on one with students
- Neat, clean and well groomed as conducive to food handling and health standards
- TB test as necessary
- Valid Ohio driver's license
- FBI and BCI report
- Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Equipment Operated:
- Convection oven/stove and other related food service equipment and materials
- Can opener, mixer, grinder, slicer, knives, microwave, food processor, dishwasher, fryers, steamers, electric kettle and grills
- Calculator and Point of Sale
- All cafeteria equipment as needed

While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior. A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A 'Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
