Job Description

In this leadership role, you'll plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of the Food Service Department in alignment with UPMC Somerset's mission and vision. You'll ensure high-quality nutrition and food services for patients, visitors, and staff—while guiding operations, building strong teams, and driving excellence across clinical nutrition and food service programs. Responsibilities You'll provide overall leadership for food services, clinical nutrition, and departmental operations, ensuring safe, high-quality service delivery You'll establish policies and procedures to guide menu development, food preparation, service, budgeting, purchasing, sanitation, safety, and staffing You'll oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, and staff development—coaching your team and fostering a collaborative, positive culture You'll build strong partnerships with medical, nursing, and hospital departments to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care You'll oversee menu planning (including therapeutic diets), monitor food quality and quantity, and manage costs while maintaining inspection readiness You'll lead department scheduling, budgeting, and operational tracking, including labor, supplies, and inventory management You'll ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness standards You'll drive continuous improvement—reviewing workflows, enhancing processes, and supporting evidence-based practices to improve outcomes and efficiency You'll maintain accurate food and nutrition systems and conduct regular inspections of work, storage, and service areas You'll represent the department at meetings and professional events, staying current on industry trends and leading system initiatives as needed You'll promote team engagement by recognizing success, providing ongoing education, and supporting professional growth
