Position Summary The Assistant Director of Culinary Services supports the overall operation of the Culinary Services Department, ensuring high-quality food service delivery to residents, patients, staff, and guests. This role partners with the Director of Culinary Services to maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations , including skilled nursing and long-term care standards, while promoting a safe, sanitary, and hospitality-driven, resident-centered dining experience . The Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in staff supervision, regulatory readiness, food quality, and operational efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field Minimum 3-5 years of culinary or food service leadership experience , preferably in: Skilled nursing Long-term care Healthcare dining services High level of hospitality experience required , with a demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional service and elevate the resident dining experience Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing home food service (CMS, state health department, and survey readiness) Food Safety Certification (ServSafe or equivalent) required or must obtain within 90 days Experience with therapeutic diets and dietary regulations preferred Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Culinary Leadership Assist in managing daily culinary operations across all dining venues Ensure meals are prepared and served according to menu standards, nutritional requirements, and physician-ordered diets Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation Champion a high-touch hospitality approach , ensuring an exceptional dining experience for residents and guests Support menu planning in collaboration with dietitians Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness Ensure adherence to all CMS, state licensing, and local health department regulations Maintain compliance with infection control, sanitation, and food safety requirements Assist in preparing for and participating in state surveys and audits Ensure proper documentation, temperature logs, and food handling procedures are consistently followed Staff Leadership & Development Supervise, train, and coach culinary team members Model and reinforce hospitality-focused service standards Assist with scheduling, staffing, and performance management Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence Participate in hiring and onboarding new team members Resident Experience Support person-centered dining initiatives Ensure staff deliver restaurant-quality service with a hospitality mindset Address resident and family concerns regarding meals and dining services Promote service excellence that enhances quality of life and satisfaction Financial & Administrative Support Assist in managing departmental budget, food costs, and labor costs Monitor inventory and ordering to ensure cost-effective operations Support waste reduction and efficiency initiatives Safety & Sanitation Enforce compliance with food safety, infection control, and workplace safety standards Ensure kitchen and dining areas meet all sanitation requirements Conduct routine inspections and audits Core Competencies Regulatory knowledge (long-term care/skilled nursing) Hospitality and service excellence mindset Leadership and team development Attention to detail and compliance focus Customer service and resident-centered care Operational and financial acumen Working Conditions Fast-paced healthcare environment Exposure to kitchen equipment and varying temperatures May require weekends, evenings, and holiday availability Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Lift up to 40 pounds Perform bending, reaching, and repetitive motions We are an equal opportunity employer
