Job Description
Camp Woodbrooke Position Description for the Kitchen Coordinator Your responsibilities include: 1. Coordinates kitchen and cooking operations by: a. planning nutritionally sound menus for up to 70 people b. purchasing food and supplies through designated vendors c. running errands to local stores, transporting food and supplies as necessary several times a week d. securing and making available food and food-related program supplies needed by other staff e. coordinating delivery or pick-up of ordered items f. adapting menus for special diets and health needs g. adapting menus to make use of available garden produce h. ensuring adequate food quantities that meet the high energy demands of camp residents i. coordinating pack-out of foods for cookouts and overnights j. overseeing proper food storage k. following all required and established health and sanitation procedures l. communicating and implementing procedures to follow in the kitchen, food storage, and dishwashing areas. m. supervising and providing necessary support to staff and helpers assigned as cooks in the meal rotation n. scheduling staff and helpers in the meal and dishwashing rotations collaboratively with the camp director. 2. Periodically design and lead an activity (which may include kitchen related activities) for a small group of campers, being sure to: a. adjust activities as necessary to meet the varied age and developmental levels of campers participating in them b. foster cooperation and positive group dynamics c. incorporate opportunities for campers to develop an appreciation of nature and greater comfort in the outdoors d. follow all safety guidelines for each activity e. be aware of participants' medical needs and serving as a first aider when needed or seeking out medical help when needed. 3. Serve as a role model and guide campers in appropriate behavior, language, attitudes, and activities by: a. valuing and appreciating differences in individuals b. treating all campers, staff, and families with respect and dignity c. maintaining a positive attitude and positive relationships with staff and campers d. following camp rules and policies and supporting camp traditions that positively contribute to camp life e. practicing good health habits. 4. Function as an effective member of the camp staff team by: a. maintaining excellent communication with campers and staff b. participating in staff meetings, conferences, and other meetings as directed c. taking an active role in the continual evaluation of campers, programs, and staff d. being responsible for the use and care of camp-owned equipment e. being able to put the needs of others above your own f. respecting confidentiality g. completing necessary documentation in a timely manner h. following all safety guidelines and emergency procedures. 5. Maintain a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and motivation. 6. Use sound decision-making and problem solving skills. 7. Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
(a) A belief in, adherence to, and a willingness to promote the values and philosophies of Camp Woodbrooke, Inc. (b) Love of and experience cooking (experience preparing food for large groups of up to 70 people). (c) Love of and experience leading children. (d) Excellent communication skills and willingness and ability to work as part of an effective camp staff team. (e) Maturity and good judgment. (f) A genuine interest in and acceptance of all people and the ability to live and work with children and adults of all races, religions, nationalities, and backgrounds. (g) Strong organization and planning skills. (h) Knowledge of basic food and health sanitation (formal training in food sanitation/kitchen management preferred). (i) Ability to motivate, direct, supervise, and support co-workers and young people (supervisory experience preferred). (j) Excellent physical and mental health, abundant energy, and a sense of humor. (k) Ability to tolerate heat and humidity, especially during physical activity. (l) Ability to stand for several hours at a time. (m) Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. (n) Ability to do basic math and communicate effectively in writing. (o) Minimum age of 18 years and one year of college experience (21 years old preferred). (p) Current certification by the American Red Cross in Standard First Aid and Child and Adult CPR by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or the equivalent. (q) Good driving record, valid driver's license, and ability to operate a car, minivan, and/or truck preferred. Campers thrive with our small 3:1 camper/staff ratio and choose their daily activities — nature walks, woodworking, pottery, archery, drama, cooking, wading in the creek, camp-outs and, of course, swimming! Listening to owls while falling asleep, the rustic setting and wholesome family-style meals help make the Camp Woodbrooke experience unique. Everyone shares in caring for the community by gardening, tending the animals, cleaning the shower house and keeping camp beautiful. For nearly 40 years, our Quaker-based leadership has emphasized peace, simplicity and stewardship for the Earth while offering children the chance to spend quality time in nature. Location Located on 162 hilly, wooded acres in the Driftless near Richland Center, Wisconsin. Time Commitment Normally 8 weeks from mid-June-the second Tuesday in August-the first week being staff training and the last few days are clean-up. Compensation and Perks Includes food and board, workman's compensation, WiFi. We also have 162 acres of hilly forests, meadows, a spring-fed pond, and huge organic garden!. Because we are such a small camp, our staff get a lot of say. The kitchen coordinator has the freedom to develop meal plans as long as they work with our organic garden produce and are fitted for all eating types. The director is willing to train you as needed and running a kitchen for the summer looks really good on the resume! Ideal Applicant Must be at least 18 years old, but 21 is preferred. We are a small community, so being able to work closely with others is a must. Must have driver's license.Salary/Compensation:
