Summary:
A Shift Leader oversees daily restaurant operations during their assigned shift, ensuring smooth and efficient service. They act as a manager when a General Manager or Assistant Manager is not present, supervising staff and upholding company standards for quality, service and cleanliness.
Responsibilities:
- Team management and leadership: o Delegate tasks and responsibilities to employees during the shift. o Train new team members on company procedures and standards. o Motivate the team to meet sales goals and deliver exceptional customer service. o Provide coaching and feedback to help employees improve their performance. o Resolve disputes or conflicts among staff members.
- Customer service: o Lead by example to ensure all guests receive a positive experience. o Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
Operational Duties:
o Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, balancing registers and preparing deposits. o Conduct inventory checks, restock supplies and communicate needs to management. o Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, including food safety and sanitation standards. o Monitor the dining room, kitchen and other areas to ensure they are clean, organized and running efficiently. o Jump in to help with any restaurant role as needed, such as preparing food or serving customers. o Report on employee attendance, productivity and other daily operational matters to the management team.
Skills and qualifications:
- Experience - Previous experience in the restaurant industry, often as a crew member, is required. Some management or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Education - A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Key competencies: o Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
o Problem Solving and conflict resolution abilities. o Excellent customer service skills. o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and high pressure situations. o Experience with cash handling and Point-of-Sale (POS) systems. o Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards. o Basic math skills. o Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
