Who We Are:
The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) seeks to engage our audiences in the appreciation of art, history, and culture of the Inland Northwest and beyond, through collection stewardship, exhibitions and programs that enrich and inspire. Established in 1916, the MAC is the oldest cultural organization in Spokane, Washington, and serves over 100,000 visitors each year from around the region. The museum collections contain over 63,000 objects, including the largest known collection of Plateau tribes art and artifacts. About theOpportunity:
As a Museum Educator, you will play a vital role in enlivening the historic Campbell House Complex and driving audience engagement through immersive storytelling and high-quality programming. You will be the primary lead for K-12 youth initiatives, including school visits and summer camps, where you will deliver standards-aligned curriculum and facilitate hands-on activities in our "Create Space." Beyond instruction, you will manage the weekday operations of the historic complex, utilize museum software to coordinate registrations, and collaborate with the Education team to ensure a seamless, safe, and exceptional experience for visitors of all ages. From preparing classroom materials to mentoring volunteers, your work will directly bridge the gap between local history and our community. DutiesSome of What You'll Enjoy Doing Includes:
Lead the implementation of museum youth programs, including K-12 school visits, summer camps, and specialized workshops. Deliver engaging interpretive tours of the historic Campbell House and Carriage House for audiences of all ages. Oversee weekday operations of the historic complex, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all visitors. Facilitate educational curriculum aligned with National and State learning standards in classroom, gallery, and public settings. Manage administrative logistics using museum software to handle registrations, patron files, and program scheduling. Prepare and organize teaching materials and shared spaces to ensure sufficient supplies for all educational activities. Collaborate with internal teams and the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and supervise support staff for museum events. Facilitate high-quality visitor experiences by leading interpretive tours and living history performances at the Campbell House complex while managing its daily weekday operations. Conduct historical research and visitor studies to develop age-appropriate programming, track engagement metrics, and communicate regional heritage effectively to diverse audiences. Other duties as needed. QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in History, Education, Anthropology, Teaching, History, Art, Theater, Museum Studies, or related field.NOTE:
Experience with delivering tours or educational programs may substitute this education requirement, year-for-year. Ability to express interpretive concepts clearly and concisely, with demonstrated success in creating exceptional visitor experiences. Passion for sharing the region's stories with audiences of all ages, cultures, and learning preferences through a variety of media (printed, electronic, visual, etc.). Demonstrate a commitment to growth, learning and self-awareness when provided training and opportunities to participate in improving our work environment. Participate and behave in a manner that creates trust and builds working relationships, promoting teamwork and collaboration in the work environment. Degree in History, Education, Anthropology, Teaching, History, Art, Theater or Museum Studies. Understanding of inter-generational & individual learning styles, cultural dynamics, and AAM best practices.
