Job Description

The Anchorage Museum is a place of ideas, creativity, and connection, committed to people, place, planet, and potential. Exploring the intersection of art, history, and science, the Museum shares multiple perspectives and experiences that tell a greater story of the North. We are pleased to welcome applications for the 2026 CoLab Education Internship , a paid, hands‑on learning opportunity for individuals interested in education, creative making, and public engagement within an informal learning environment. Through guided practice, mentorship, and real‑world facilitation experience, this internship invites participants to explore how curiosity, creativity, and inquiry can inspire learners of all ages. About the Internship The CoLab Education Intern will work alongside Museum educators and facilitators in CoLab (Collaborative Laboratory) -a dynamic, hands‑on space that encourages experimentation, problem‑solving, and creative expression through tools, materials, and ideas inspired by the North. This internship focuses on developing facilitation skills in an informal education setting while supporting the design and testing of new activities for public use. Interns will be introduced to inquiry‑based educational approaches and foundational learning theories while building practical skills in program development and visitor engagement. What You'll Do Facilitate hands‑on activities with Museum visitors of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds Practice inquiry‑based facilitation techniques that encourage exploration, questioning, and creative thinking Assist with the design, prototyping, and refinement of new CoLab activities Learn to manage time, materials, and tools in a public learning environment Support daily CoLab operations, including preparation, setup, and cleanup Collaborate with educators and Museum staff to support programs and visitor experiences Build confidence engaging with the public in a fast‑paced, creative setting What You'll Gain Hands‑on experience in informal education and public facilitation Training in inquiry‑based learning strategies and educational best practices Practical skills in program design, material planning, and visitor engagement Exposure to museum education careers and creative learning environments Professional mentorship from experienced museum educators An understanding of how hands‑on learning supports access, curiosity, and connection Who We're Looking For We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences. This internship is a strong fit for individuals who bring: Aged 16 or older at the start of the internship Interest in education and hands‑on

Internship Details Schedule:
20 hours per week, Monday-Friday, for 8 weeks

$2,750 for the internship term
