Golden Mussel Project -
Sierra Forever Bridgeport, California View Job Posting About Us:
Founded in 1970, the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA) (renamed Sierra Forever effective October 24, 2024) is a nonprofit that partners with local, tribal, and federal government and other nonprofit organizations to provide interpretive education about the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin landscapes. We hope to translate the beauty and uniqueness of public lands for people to develop a deeper appreciation of these places, and in turn, become better stewards. We operate bookstores in visitor centers and support educational and interpretive programs in collaboration with agency partners. Our partnerships include the Inyo National Forest, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, Klamath National Forest, Death Valley National Park, Devils Postpile National Monument, Manzanar National Historic Site, and the Bureau of Land Management-Bishop Field Office.
Position Overview:
We are looking for two seasonal full-time and one part-time Interpretive Specialists. Reporting to the Executive Director, all three positions will be collaborating with Inyo National Forest, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, LA Department of Water and Power, Inyo County, and Mono County on Golden Mussel project priorities through education, communication, and watercraft inspection.
Responsibilities Include:

Education Tasks:
Develop and deliver educational programs and materials to inform visitors about the risks posed by golden mussels, including their impact on local ecosystems and water infrastructure. Engage with the public through workshops, presentations, and informational signage to promote prevention strategies and encourage responsible recreation practices. 2.
Maintenance Tasks:
Conduct thorough inspections for golden mussels at designated inspection sites to prevent the spread of invasive species. Work with partner agencies to ensure proper protocols are followed and provide guidance to boaters and visitors on decontamination procedures. 3.
Data Collection:
Collect and record data related to the presence and spread of golden mussels at inspection sites, including water quality indicators and infestation levels. Prepare reports and submit findings to federal, state, and local government agencies to support ongoing monitoring and management efforts. 4. Other tasks and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in any field is preferred but not required. Excellent people skills, including in-person with customers, the ability to connect with members and potential members, partners, and colleagues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences. Comfort operating both independently and collaboratively. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated success at managing time and meeting deadlines. Experience with point-of-sale. Valid CA driver's license and Ability and willingness to travel. Compensation for this position is $17-19/hour, based on experience. ESIA's benefits for seasonal full-time employees include paid sick leave.
