This is an active, hands-on outdoor management role that combines guest service, team leadership, equipment handling, safety oversight, staff management, and practical problem solving. The Tour Manager is responsible for helping ensure that each tour runs safely, smoothly, on time, and in accordance with company procedures. The Tour Manager will supervise Tour Guides / Operations Assistants, assist with guest check-in and tour preparation, oversee the staging and movement of rail bikes, monitor safety procedures, respond to guest and operational issues, and help maintain a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for both guests and staff. This position requires working outdoors in a variety of conditions, including heat, rain, cold weather, wind, and darkness. Reliability, punctuality, leadership, good judgment, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential qualities for any potential candidate. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily rail bike tour operations and help ensure tours run safely, smoothly, and on schedule. Supervise Tour Guides / Operations Assistants during assigned shifts. Help train staff on guest service, safety procedures, tour operations, equipment handling, and opening/closing tasks. Greet guests and help create a friendly and welcoming environment for all. Assist with guest check-in, waiver confirmation, and tour preparation. Ensure rail bikes are ready before each tour, including cleaning, staging, positioning, and operational checks. Provide or oversee clear safety instructions before each tour. Ensure guests are safely boarded and exited from rail bikes. Guide tours when needed and monitor guest experience throughout the ride. Coordinate the movement of rail bikes on and off the track as needed. Safely lift, push, pull, and maneuver rail bikes and related equipment, including co-lifting heavy rail bikes when required. Oversee turning, staging, spacing, and positioning of rail bikes. Monitor guest behavior and enforce safety rules when necessary. Respond to guest questions, concerns, complaints, and operational issues in a calm and professional manner. Identify, document, and report equipment issues, track concerns, guest incidents, staffing issues, or other operational problems. Use good judgment and problem-solving skills when issues occur before, during, or after tours. Communicate clearly with staff, guests, and company management. Help manage tour flow, timing, and staff positioning throughout the day to keep tours operating smoothly. Confirm that opening and closing procedures are completed properly. Keep loading areas, equipment areas, and guest spaces clean, organized, and safe. Help maintain a positive, professional, and safety-focused work environment. Requirements Candidates must be able to: Be reliable, punctual, and ready to work scheduled shifts. Lead a team in a calm, fair, and professional manner. Communicate clearly and professionally with guests, staff, and management. Safely perform the physical requirements of the role, including co-lifting heavy rail bikes, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering rail bikes and related equipment. Work outdoors in varying conditions, including heat, rain, cold weather, wind, and darkness. Stand, walk, bend, reach, pedal, and remain active for extended periods, including in warm weather. Follow and enforce safety procedures consistently. Think on their feet and solve operational problems as they arise. Stay calm under pressure and make sound decisions during busy or challenging situations. Hold staff accountable to company procedures and guest service standards. Maintain a positive and professional attitude with guests, coworkers, and management. Use basic technology as needed for guest check-in, scheduling, communication, or reporting. Helpful Experience Prior experience in any of the following is helpful: Team lead, supervisor, or manager role Outdoor recreation Attractions or tourism Hospitality or guest services Summer camps Mechanical, maintenance, or equipment handling work Event operations Railroad, bike, climbing, boating, or other adventure recreation environments Safety-sensitive or guest-facing operations Schedule This is a seasonal position, operating from June through late October or mid-November, with shifts based on the tour schedule. Weekend, evening, and holiday availability is required. Because tours depend on adequate staffing and proper daily oversight, reliability and punctual attendance are essential. The Tour Manager may also be expected to help cover guide duties when needed. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is dependable, steady under pressure, and comfortable leading a team in an active outdoor environment. They are friendly with guests, direct and helpful with staff, and able to balance safety, guest service, scheduling, and hands-on operational work throughout the day. This person should be comfortable taking responsibility for the shift, solving problems as they arise, and making sure both guests and staff have a safe, organized, and positive experience.
