1 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN Nurse Navigator for a Radiation Oncology position requiring a DC RN license and a strong oncology background, including extensive experience managing oncologic emergencies and radiation therapy patients. Details Work setting is a Radiation Oncology unit within an academic teaching hospital Primary patient population consists of cancer patients receiving radiation treatment Office duties include chart preparation, disability form completion, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage Administers IVs to adult patients and manages ports and central/implanted lines Charting is performed in Cerner Day shift schedule: 5x8-hour shifts (8:00 AM- 4:30 PM), Monday through Friday Requirements Active DC RN license currently in hand Current BLS certification required Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Extensive oncology nursing experience required At least 1 completed travel assignment required Proficiency in oncologic emergency management: ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression, and neutropenic precautions Proficiency in IV therapy and infusions, including port care, central line blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs Proficiency in external radiation therapy (teletherapy) and radiation safety precautions Proficiency in symptom management: nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, dysphagia, edema, constipation/diarrhea, and altered skin/mucous membrane integrity Proficiency in wound care and tracheostomy care/management 2 supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the past 3 years Flu vaccine required Driver's license required for consideration Additional Information Nurse navigator experience or nurse coordinator experience is a plus Responsibilities include patient education, skin and wound care, radiation toxicity assessment, and addressing patient social needs Nurses assess and triage signs and symptoms of concern and consult with attending physicians, residents, or emergency services as appropriate Candidates who have previously worked for MedStar must have been separated for a minimum of one year before being eligible to return as a traveler No RTO is permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; no more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, and all RTO must be disclosed upfront Candidates living within 60 miles of the facility are considered local; a driver's license must be provided to verify a candidate's address for local status determination Interviews with the manager are not guaranteed — candidates should be comfortable proceeding without one Facility-specific compliance modules must be completed within one week of contract signing Labs and DS appointments must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
