This position will be located at Deutschheim State Historic Site , West Second Street, Hermann, MO . This position typically works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30‑minute lunch break. Shifts may vary occasionally with the time of year and to meet the needs of the facility. [On-site housing may be available.] Responsibilities - What you'll do This position is responsible for the administrative and supervisory oversight of Deutschheim State Historic Site including oversight of daily operations, budgeting, directing maintenance priorities, meeting operational standards, staff work schedules, and direct supervision. Directs and participates in development of historic interpretation, preservation, and curation of historic properties, artifacts and museum collections. Research and develop new interpretation programs, update existing programs and create permanent and temporary exhibits, presents technical/interpretive information to professionals and the public. Must be able to exercise a high degree of initiative and independent judgement in planning and implementing the work. This position supervises and evaluates one Maintenance Worker and a variable number of part-time staff and volunteers; trains employees in the areas of safety, risk management, equipment operation, giving tours, retail operations, and facility maintenance. Greets the public and discusses the facility's resources, rules, and regulations relating to the state park and historic site system. Develop, schedule, and participate in special events, interpretive programs, and informational public meetings. Establish a functional, proactive, working relationship with the media, local governments, local constituency groups, and other stakeholders, such as the Hermann Chamber of Commerce and the Deutschheim Verein. Research, collect, organizes, draft data for fiscal, statistical, and operational reports. Assists in implementing state park or historic site development projects, which include expansions, new construction, renovations, and maintenance. Assist with the historic Pelster House Barn's development and management. Assist with the artistic vision of the site's garden, which includes basic plant knowledge and gardening skills. Maintains proactive retail management and inventory control. Position must be available to work on weekends and evenings, in order to respond to incidents and to visitors' needs at the park and the historic site (which is open on weekends year-round). Equivalent to those typically gained by : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university can include Park Management, Parks and Recreation, History, Museum Studies, Education, Business of Public Administration or related field. AND four or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience) Other Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special Job Requirements Must be able to work well with little direct supervision. Must be able to work with outside agencies and landowners regarding issues related to State Parks Must be able to speak and give presentations at public meetings and events. Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator's license. Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts. Available to participate in special events, meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays. Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds. Proficient with current technology and ability to use computer programs to manage and present reports, proposals and professional communications with both team members and the public. Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
