THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is seeking a Tourist Information Counselor who enjoys meeting new people and sharing useful travel details. This role lets you support visitors as they explore Pennsylvania and helps strengthen tourism across the state. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on providing visitors with accurate travel information and helpful guidance at a Northampton County Welcome Center. Your work will support tourism efforts and strengthen communication with travelers and partners. As a Tourist Information Counselor, you will perform the following duties:
Visitor Assistance:
Provide travelers with directions, lodging information, and details about attractions across Pennsylvania
Tourism Outreach:
Support special programs and participate in tours and travel events to promote statewide tourism
Center Operations:
Open or close the Welcome Center as needed and maintain clean, organized displays and supply areas
Information Management:
Prepare daily reports, track visitor counts, and maintain accurate inventories of literature and materials
Communication Support:
Share questions and concerns with supervisors and assist with internal and external communication tasks
Safety Awareness:
Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and act responsibly to protect visitors and staff Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Part-time temporary "on call" employment.
On Call shifts can range from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, (temporarily hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM), 7 days per week.
Shifts vary and working hours are based on operational needs, to include reporting during periods of inclement weather as needed to serve the traveling public.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience in work involving public contact; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

You must have the ability to report to work within 1 hour of being called in.
You must have front facing public contact experience.
You must have experience working with computers.
You must have experience answering phones, composing emails, compiling reports, tracking office activities and inventory, entering data, and filing.
You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Five or more years of full-time experience in work involving front facing public contact.
