Forest Lawn Cemetery and Crematory Group is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Community Engagement Coordinator to support our growing public programming and community outreach efforts. This position plays an important role in helping coordinate our popular cemetery tours, educational programs, lectures, performances, workshops, and special events. Administrative Support:
Assist in coordinating and confirming volunteer/docent schedules Handle inquiries from the public, answer phones, and respond to emails regarding tour availability, bookings, ticket sales, and schedules. Maintain participant records, registration details, and attendance logs for programs and tours. Program Assistance:
Prepare tour materials such as registration lists, tour supplies and coordination with volunteers/docents Set up and break down equipment and spaces used for programs, ensuring everything runs smoothly during events. Maintain knowledge of and continue to learn Forest Lawn history and recurring tours Assist in the distribution of promotional materials and outreach efforts to local communities. Act as a back up for the Community Engagement Director when/where needed. Customer Service:
Greet and assist guests during tours or events, providing information, directions, and ensuring a positive experience. Collect feedback from participants to help improve future programs. Guide Support:
Coordinate with tour guides, making sure they have all necessary resources (e.g., scripts, tour route details). Assist in leading tours or programs as needed Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate degree in hospitality, tourism, communications, event management, marketing, history, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Nonprofit, tourism, event planning, customer service, or administrative experience preferred Valid New York State driver's license required Strong communication and customer service skills Excellent organizational and time management abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively Comfort working with diverse audiences and community groups Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays Interest in local history, tourism, nonprofit organizations, or event coordination is a plus Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position operates in a variety of settings, including office environments, historic cemetery grounds, event venues, and outdoor tour locations. Employees will regularly interact with visitors, volunteers, community partners, and staff. The role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and hearing, as well as the use of hands and arms for administrative and event-related tasks. Employees should be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Candidates must be able to navigate uneven terrain, hills, and slopes throughout cemetery grounds and occasionally lift, carry, or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
