Job Description

Utah Valley University is seeking a student to assist as a docent in the Roots of Knowledge department.
Who we are:
The library's Roots of Knowledge department offers engaging careers that intersect art, history, and education. Located in the Bingham Gallery, Roots of Knowledge is a sweeping stained-glass exhibit of human history and evolution. Our dynamic team of curators, docents, and administrators seeks to uplift UVU's engaged learning model through educational resources that illuminate and inspire. Host to docent-led tours, university events, and the bi-annual Speaker Series, Roots of Knowledge is both a key public service and an artistic landmark. What you'll be doing: The Fulton Library is seeking an energetic and self-motivated student to create positive interactions with visitors to the Bingham Gallery as a Roots of Knowledge Docent, including: Interacting with visiting community members, groups, and schools by interpreting and sharing information. Welcoming visitors, guiding and teaching visitors on tours, answering questions about objects in the windows, and assisting with scheduled events when needed. Student docents can expect to work approximately 10 to 15 hours per week. Must be a current UVU student Have the availability to work a block of hours between 9 am to 8 pm, Mon to Fri; 1-2 Saturday shifts per month(Saturday hours are from 11 am to 5 pm); and optional shifts on Sundays. Preferred Qualifications One year of experience in related duties is preferred. Experience applying broad knowledge across a variety of subjects Experience working effectively with the public Able to communicate verbally with clarity and confidence Able to deliver public speaking engagements or presentations effectively Able to build positive relationships and get along well with others Able to communicate detailed information at a level appropriate for the audience Can take a proactive approach when working with the public Experience working with guests from diverse backgrounds Able to work independently Able to maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude Able to demonstrate punctuality and reliability Able to retain and recall large amounts of information
