Position Overview:

Stargazing Zion is seeking passionate, knowledgeable Astronomy Guides to lead immersive night-sky experiences beneath the exceptionally dark skies of Southwest Utah. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive at the intersection of science, storytelling, and guest engagement. As an Astronomy Guide, you will be the lead storyteller and educator - guiding guests through the wonders of the solar system, deep-space objects, constellations, and the human history of astronomy. Our programs are designed to inspire curiosity, wonder, and connection to the universe, while remaining accessible and entertaining for guests of all backgrounds. You will be responsible for delivering a polished, engaging, and well-paced stargazing program, adapting your presentation style in real time based on guest energy, group dynamics, sky conditions, and environmental factors. This role requires both strong technical knowledge and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

- Program Presentation Lead a 120-minute guided stargazing experience , covering: The solar system Stars and constellations Deep-space objects The history of astronomy and its relationship to human culture Operate and manage both optical and digital telescopes during live viewing sessions. Identify and interpret celestial objects visible on a given night. Engage guests through meaningful dialogue, storytelling, and interactive education. Maintain awareness of guest sentiment and adapt tone, pacing, and content to ensure an exceptional experience. - Set-Up & Breakdown Communicate prior to each tour regarding timing, guest count, program focus, moon phase, and weather conditions . Collaborate with Night Sky Assistants to efficiently set up and break down telescopes and supporting equipment. Ensure all equipment is handled properly and respectfully in outdoor conditions.

Qualifications:

- General Skills Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent verbal communication skills with experience engaging diverse audiences. Proven ability to develop or deliver educational content in a compelling, narrative-driven format. Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations and support staff. Adaptable and flexible in changing environmental and logistical conditions. - Technical & Subject Expertise High level of proficiency and knowledge in astronomy. Advanced understanding of constellations and their historical significance. Hands-on experience with telescopes (manual and electronic). Strong grasp of program flow, pacing, and balance. Ability to read guest needs and exceed expectations through thoughtful delivery. - Education Coursework or formal studies in astronomy, physics, natural sciences, or a related field required.

Pay:
