GENERAL SUMMARY
Shoreline is an inclusive City that endeavors to build a work culture which embraces diversity, encourages participation, and promotes equity. We are seeking two (2) part-time Outdoor Hikes & Trips Instructors for our Active Adult Trips & Hikes Recreation Program.SCOPE OF WORK
This is a yearly, ongoing position working once or twice a month on Saturdays and Sundays. The Outdoor Hikes & Trips Instructor is responsible for transporting and leading a group of active adults in a variety of programmed hikes and leisure trips in Washington State. This position works collaboratively with recreation staff and the other Outdoor Hikes & Trips Instructors to research and plan year-round trips which are advertised and operated through the Recreation and Cultural Services Division of the City of Shoreline.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist the Recreation Specialist II in planning trip destinations and itineraries. Make sure all participants are registered and prepared for trip. Drive participants in an accessible 14 passenger vehicle. Lead participants on hikes and sightseeing at destinations. Engage with participants, sharing knowledge and making the trip an enjoyable experience. Know and follow City policies and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of hiking and leisure trip destinations across Washington State. Knowledge of safe hiking practices. Ability to participate and work effectively in an organization committed to advancing principles and practices of equity and anti-racism. Ability to lead adult participants of varying ages and abilities on day hikes up to 8 miles long with up to 1,500ft. elevation gain. Ability to drive a 14-passenger accessible van for up to 3 hours at a time in all weather conditions, including over mountain passes in the winter months. Ability to independently troubleshoot issues and quickly make changes to ensure participants have a fun and safe experience. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population. Organizational skills.Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years old. Experience in outdoor recreation, hiking and leisure trips. First Aid/CPR certification required (including bloodborne pathogen training) or able to acquire within 3 months of hire. Valid Washington State Driver's License with insurable record. (Commercial Driver's License "CDL" not required) Employment offer is contingent upon successful completion of a Washington State Background Check.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
