Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking an R3 Coordinator based in Cheyenne, WY. This position leads Game and Fish efforts to ensure long-term participation in hunting and angling through strategic recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) initiatives. The position oversees and coordinates statewide R3 programs and evaluates and refines department efforts to optimize participation outcomes and support the future of Wyoming's hunting and angling traditions. The position will build upon established R3 efforts and work collaboratively across the organization to implement and enhance in-person programs, multi-day residential outdoor skills camps, digital information campaigns, public outreach efforts, and strategic partnerships to maintain agency relevance to a diverse group of stakeholders. This position will play a key role in advancing Wyoming Game and Fish Department R3 strategic planning goals by increasing accessibility to the sports of hunting and angling and utilizing data-driven evaluation methods to improve program effectiveness, efficiency, and long-term success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level. Serve as the Department lead on efforts to increase hunting and angling participation within Wyoming through collaboration with key partners, strategic communications, and public outreach. Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and systems through a comprehensive R3 framework focused on recruiting, retaining, and reactivating hunters and anglers in coordination with intraagency and external partners. Develop and implement digital information campaigns and outreach strategies designed to recruit, retain, and engage hunters and anglers across diverse audiences and demographics. Utilize participation data, license sale trends, other research and industry trends to evaluate program effectiveness and refine programmatic components to optimize efficiency and long-term R3 success. Develop new initiatives and expand existing programs in alignment with Department R3 strategic planning goals and emerging participation trends. Coordinate and lead multi-day outdoor skills camps (including Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, WY Collegiate Conservation Academy), mentored experiences (WY Hunt Fish), and other public outreach events and programs focused on hunting, angling, and wildlife conservation. Increase accessibility to hunting and angling opportunities in Wyoming by identifying barriers to participation and developing inclusive programs and partnerships to overcome challenges. Partner with the Conservation Education Coordinators and the Hunter Education Coordinators to execute education team projects and outreach programs. Work with the Communications and Marketing Teams to develop and implement marketing strategies, media content, and outreach campaigns that promote hunting and angling participation and retention.
PREFERENCES
Preference may be given to candidates with 2-4 years of experience coordinating or managing R3 programs, outreach initiatives, or outdoor education programs related to hunting, angling, wildlife conservation, or outdoor recreation.
KNOWLEDGE
Must have excellent communication skills, strong organizational and leadership skills, enthusiasm, flexibility and a passion for working with others. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and educate in a variety of formats, including interpersonal communication, educational instruction, writing, public speaking, and digital media outreach. Experience planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating education programs or events. Knowledge and experience instructing outdoor recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, trapping, and other wildlife-based recreation activities. Knowledge of current R3 strategies, participation trends, and retention efforts at both state and national levels. Experience utilizing digital marketing and email campaigns, analytics, or social media strategies to engage audiences and promote behavior change. Ability to think and act creatively and strategically to further hunting, angling, and shooting sports R3 efforts. Experience using data trends, participation metrics, and program evaluation tools to inform decision-making and improve program outcomes. Ability to build partnerships and foster collaboration among agencies, organizations, communities, and volunteers to advance R3 and conservation education goals. Must have the ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions and be comfortable pulling trailers, utilizing firearms in a safe manner, and operating 4WD vehicles.
