Core responsibilities include managing the flow of service, providing accurate wait times, answering phones, and coordinating with servers to maximize efficiency. They require strong communication, organization, and customer service skills to ensure a positive dining experience from arrival to departure.
Core Responsibilities Greeting and Seating:
Welcoming guests warmly, managing the guest list, escorting them to tables, and providing menus.
Reservation Management:
Handling bookings via phone or online systems (like OpenTable) and managing table assignments for the shift.
Wait Time Management:
Providing accurate, honest wait times to walk-in guests and managing the waiting area.
Service Coordination:
Communicating with servers and bussers to track table turnover and optimize seating flow.
Guest Service:
Addressing customer inquiries, resolving minor complaints, and assisting with special needs, such as providing highchairs.
Station Maintenance:
Maintaining a clean and organized host stand/reception area and ensuring menus are clean.
Key Skills and Qualifications Customer Service:
Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, professional demeanor.
Communication:
Strong verbal skills for phone and in-person interaction.
Organization:
Ability to manage high-volume seating and booking systems simultaneously.
Teamwork:
Ability to collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
Physical Stamina:
Capacity to remain standing and active for long periods.
Experience:
Previous experience in hospitality or customer service is often preferred, though not always required.
