The Banquet Captain plays a key leadership role in delivering these high standards of excellence.
Position Summary:
The Event Server is responsible for delivering exceptional food and beverage service during private events, weddings, golf tournaments, corporate functions, and member gatherings. This role ensures an elevated guest experience that reflects the standards and hospitality and excellence of the club. 2
Typical Duties and Responsibilities Event Setup:
Arrange tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and decorations according to event plans. Set up buffet stations, beverage stations, and serving equipment. Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and fully stocked before guests arrive.
Food & Beverage Service:
Greeting guests and provide attentive, friendly service throughout the event. Serve plated meals, beverages, hors d'oeuvres, or buffet items depending on the event format. Refill drinks, clear plates, and monitor guest needs throughout service. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations.
Guest Assistance:
Provide professional, courteous, and attentive service to members and guests during events Answer questions about menu items, ingredients, or event schedules. Assist guests with seating or special accommodations. Address guest concerns or requests promptly and professionally.
Event Breakdown:
Clear tables, remove linens, and reset the room after events. Clean and store service equipment, dishes, and glassware. Assist in returning venue space to its original condition.
Teamwork & Communication:
Coordinate with kitchen staff for timing of food courses. Follow instructions from banquet captains, supervisors, or event managers. Work efficiently with team members to maintain smooth service flow. 3
Other Common Responsibilities:
Carry trays of food and beverages safely and efficiently. Handle event-related tasks such as passing appetizers or managing beverage stations. Report any issues, damages, or guest incidents to supervisors.

Event Preparation & Coordination:
Assist with unloading and organizing catering supplies and equipment. Review event orders (BEOs) to understand timelines, menu details, and special requests. Set up audio/visual equipment, signage, and event materials when required. Prepare and restock condiment stations, coffee stations, and bar setups.
Service Execution:
Serve VIP guests or head tables with extra attention to detail. Pass appetizers and beverages during cocktail hours. Restock buffet items promptly and maintain cleanliness of buffet and beverage stations. Monitor guest tables for cleanliness, removing soiled dishes and resetting as needed. Assist bartenders by clearing glassware, restocking supplies, or handling basic beverage service. 4
Guest Interaction & Support:
Anticipate guest needs before being asked (water refills, napkins, utensils, etc.). Provide support to guests with mobility issues, dietary needs, or special accommodations.
Safety, Cleanliness & Compliance:
Follow proper procedures for handling hot food, sharp utensils, and heavy trays. Maintain sanitation standards for all food and beverage areas. Keep walkways and service areas clean and free of hazards during events. Adhere to alcohol service guidelines and verify IDs when applicable. Report spills, unsafe conditions, or malfunctioning equipment immediately.
Teamwork & Workflow Management:
Collaborate with event managers and other staff to ensure smooth service. Attend pre-event meetings or briefings to review service plans. Assist coworkers during peak times or special service moments. Communicate guest feedback or special requests to supervisors and kitchen staff. 5
Education and Experience:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Preferred. Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages. 1 year experience in events / banquets. Must have good understanding of the English language. Good written and verbal communication skills. Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor. Compute basic arithmetic.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience & Skills:
2-3 years of banquet, event, restaurant, hotel, or country club leadership experience required. Strong understanding of fine-dining service, banquet operations, and event logistics. Excellent communication. Detail-oriented, organized, and calm under pressure. 6
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Stands/walks approximately 40% of shift. Sits at desk or in meetings approximately 60% of shift. Occasionally required to handle and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. over short distances. Must be able to work under pressure. Must be flexible to work long, sometimes irregular hours.
IMPACT OF DECISION
Decisions directly impact profitability of the Banquets Department Poor decisions may result in customer dissatisfaction and loss of revenues, due to lack of follow-up, ineffective management of staff, lack of customer knowledge, unsafe work practices, or improperly handled customer service situations.
GENERAL:
Must comply with the Company's Appearance and Dress Code policy as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
JOB CLASSIFICATION
The position is classified as Full-Time and, upon completion of the Introductory Period, the employee is eligible for the Employee Benefits outlined in the Employee Handbook. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Company reserves the right to amend, change or discontinue the policies, practices and benefits described in the handbook at any time and without notice.
NON-EXEMPT POSITION
Non•exempt employees are subject to the wage and hour laws and entitled to overtime pay. All overtime work by a non-exempt employee must be approved in advance by the employee's Supervisor of the General Manager and the time initiated by him/her on the time card. Non-exempt employees who work overtime without prior approval are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.
AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT
The relationship between Almaden Golf Club and the employee is for an unspecified term and is considered "at will." This means that the terms and conditions of employment maybe changed, with or without cause and with or without notice, including, but not limited to termination, demotion, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, duties and location of work. No one other than the Owner of the Company has the authority to make any verbal or written agreement contrary to this provision and any such agreement must be put in writing and signed by the Owner before it is effective
