Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Dietary Aide / Drink Server is responsible for assisting in the preparation, delivery, and service of meals and beverages to residents in a long-term care setting. This position ensures residents receive appropriate hydration and nutrition support while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service in accordance with facility policies and state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Beverage / Hydration Services Prepare and distribute beverages (water, juice, coffee, tea, nutritional supplements) to residents throughout assigned shifts Ensure residents receive adequate hydration according to care plans Offer fluids during meal service, medication passes (if directed), and routine hydration rounds Report poor fluid intake or refusal of fluids to nursing staff promptly Meal Service Support Assist with setting up dining areas, meal trays, and serving residents during mealtimes Deliver meal trays to residents in dining room or resident rooms as assigned Ensure correct diet orders are followed (regular, mechanical soft, pureed, thickened liquids, etc.) Assist residents with opening packages, cutting food, or feeding assistance if trained and permitted Sanitation & Safety Maintain cleanliness of dining areas, beverage stations, and kitchen work areas Follow infection control, sanitation, and food safety guidelines Properly store and label food and beverage items Compliance & Documentation Follow all facility policies, dietary restrictions, and physician-ordered diets Complete required logs or documentation for food and beverage service when applicable Comply with state, federal, and facility regulations for long-term care food service
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred (not always required) Prior experience in food service or healthcare dietary role preferred Ability to follow instructions and dietary guidelines Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to lift, push, and carry meal carts and supplies as needed Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking for extended periods Lifting up to 25-50 pounds occasionally Pushing meal carts and handling kitchen equipment Exposure to food service environments (heat, cold, cleaning chemicals)
