Job Description
Job Summary The Food Expediter acts as the primary liaison between the front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) staff. This position is responsible for managing the flow of orders, garnishing plates for final presentation, and ensuring that all items for a single table are completed simultaneously. This is a high-pressure, fast-paced role that requires exceptional communication and a sharp eye for detail.
Duties Order Management:
Organize incoming tickets and call out orders to the kitchen line.
Pacing & Timing:
Coordinate the timing of various dishes (e.g., ensuring a well-done steak and a salad for the same table are ready at the same time).
Quality Control:
Inspect every plate before it leaves the kitchen to ensure it meets portion sizes, temperature requirements, and plating standards.
Final Garnishing:
Apply final touches such as sauces, herbs, or side condiments.
Communication:
Alert servers when orders are ready ("Order up!") and relay special dietary requests or modifications to the chefs.
Problem Solving:
Quickly address missing items, "dead" plates, or customer complaints sent back from the dining room.
Station Maintenance:
Keep the expo window clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies (trays, garnishes, takeout containers). Education High school diploma or GED required Experience 1-2 years in a high-volume kitchen environment
Knowledge & Skills Calm Under Pressure:
Ability to remain composed and professional during a "rush."
Strong Communication :
A loud, clear voice and ability to give directions respectfully but firmly.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long shifts and move quickly in a hot, crammed environment.
Menu Mastery:
Deep knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, allergens, and preparation time.
Memory Recall:
Remembering that Table 4 wants their dressing on the side even if it's not on the ticket
Interpersonal Skills:
must possess a natural inclination toward high-level hospitality and professional, polished demeanor Ability to multi-task and complete work efficiently Availability Must be able to work nights and weekends
