SUPERVISION
: This position is under direct supervision of the Wind River Tribal Court Administrator.
GENERAL STATEMENT
The Bailiff will be responsible for overall proper courtroom security, order and providing assistance/security to the judge and/ Hearing Officers during session and delivering legal documents to court litigants. The Bailiff will also serve court documents. Job duties follow established routines, but unusual cases require the application of sound judgment and discretion.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
: Prepare the courtroom assuring all essential parties and materials are present. Provide security for judges and court staff. Maintain order and security in the courtroom and waiting area of the court. Ability to calm and control disruptive individuals. Ability to assess situations, make judgements and take action with little or no supervision. Search the courtroom prior to hearings. Provide protection for jurors or other Court staff. Enforce all courtroom rules. Work cooperatively with security and law enforcement. Answer questions from the public where appropriate. Properly complete any documents and serve court documents such as restraining orders, notice of hearings, summons, subpoenas, court order, juvenile either on or off reservation, as necessary. Shall return documents and papers with return of service showing date and time of service to individuals, must make at least 2 attempts. Maintain a daily log of all documents and papers received and served. Communicate orally in a tactful and courteous manner with all litigants, coworkers and the public in face to face, one on one, settings or when using the telephone. Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Must maintain an acceptable department attendance record. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work. Required to attend job related, in-service meetings and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge. Adheres to standards of confidentiality. HUMAN CONTACT SKILLS
: Contacts with the public are frequent and under circumstances of stress involving uncooperative or hostile individuals. Requires knowledge and application of oral communication and human relation techniques.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION
Minimum of high school diploma or Equivalent. Must have a valid State of Wyoming Driver's License. Must have a clean driving record for a minimum of three years. Knowledge of Wind River Indian Reservation interior and exterior boundaries. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in order to provide information to individuals in court. Ability to follow verbal and written instruction, meet deadlines, maintain a steady job attendance, accuracy in accomplishing work and perform duties in a timely manner, establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisor and the general.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire. Must have good public relations and people skills are required. Must be a team player who understands the goals and will work with others to get the job achieved. Will be subject to a background investigation to include work and criminal history. Must pass a drug test prior to employment. Maybe required to work evenings and/ or weekends, Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Must have reliable transportation.
