Job Title:
Housekeeper Job Description This role performs a variety of cleaning and custodial duties to keep environmental surfaces in a large hospital clean, orderly, and sanitary. The Housekeeper organizes and completes assigned tasks in coordination with patient care teams and other support service departments, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Responsibilities Perform a wide range of cleaning duties to maintain environmental surfaces in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition throughout the facility. Clean and sanitize patient rooms, corridors, restrooms, offices, and common areas according to established procedures and standards. Handle garbage and waste removal safely and efficiently, ensuring proper disposal and maintaining cleanliness in all assigned areas. Organize daily work assignments and complete required department tasks on schedule and in coordination with patient care personnel and other support service departments. Use cleaning agents and supplies appropriately, including tasks such as sanitizing high-touch surfaces to help reduce the risk of infection. Discern colors accurately when using cleaning chemicals, labels, or signage to ensure safe and correct application of products. Perform routine and repetitive cleaning tasks rapidly, independently, and accurately while maintaining high-quality standards. Respond to customer service needs by interacting courteously with patients, visitors, and staff and addressing basic requests related to cleanliness and comfort. Follow all safety, infection control, and sanitation guidelines while using custodial equipment and supplies. Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual conditions in assigned areas to the appropriate personnel. Essential Skills Ability to perform a variety of janitorial, cleaning, and sanitation tasks in a hospital setting. Ability to discern colors to safely and correctly use cleaning chemicals and follow color-coded systems. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff to support strong customer service. Ability to perform routine and repetitive work rapidly, independently, and accurately. Strong customer service and people skills, with a professional and courteous demeanor. Capability to handle custodial tasks such as garbage removal, sanitizing surfaces, and maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas. No prior experience required; willingness to learn and follow established cleaning procedures and standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping roles in healthcare or similar environments is beneficial but not required. Familiarity with sanitation practices and safe handling of cleaning chemicals is an advantage. Comfort working in a large facility with multiple departments, floors, and common areas. Reliability and consistency in following schedules and completing assigned tasks. Why Work Here? Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
