High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Possess a valid Texas driver's license. Pass a drug screeningKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to learn and apply professional childcare practices through training. Competence in meeting the needs of emotionally disturbed children, including managing health, education, and behavior. Willingness to serve as a positive role model for both residents and staff, in alignment with HCYR policies.Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to perform restraints when necessary. Must report any condition (e.g., pregnancy, injury, medical issues) that may limit physical capabilities or increase risk of injury.Basic Function:
Provide supervision and care for residents. Ensure residents' physical, emotional, social, medical, and spiritual needs are met per individual service plans. Maintain clear and timely communication with other shifts and staff. Document significant events in the Electronic Record System. Maintain cleanliness and order of the residence for smooth shift transitions.Note:
This position is subject to mandatory drug testing. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory drug screening results.Responsibilities and Tasks:
Immediately report any suspected abuse or neglect to the Executive Director or designee. Administer medication following training guidelines and agency policy. Plan and facilitate daily & nightly routines, recreational activities, special events, and off-campus outings in coordination with the Behavioral Support Specialist/Mentor. Safely transport children using agency-provided vehicles. Maintain direct supervision and awareness of residents' locations at all times. Report recurring or serious cabin issues to the Program Director. Fulfill professional development requirements, including CPR/First Aid and other HCYR/TDFPS/T3C-mandated trainings. Oversee and support residents in completing daily chores. Manage cabin inventory and order supplies (food, hygiene, medical) as needed. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the cabin, staff quarters, and surrounding areas. Report maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor or Maintenance Department.Reaffirmed:
Report suspected abuse/neglect immediately (duplicate of #1). Participate in meetings, trainings, and supervisory conferences for skill development. Maintain accurate daily & nightly logs, medical records, and incident reports in the Electronic Record System. Ensure resident attendance at school and all required activities; monitor appropriate dress and appearance. Accompany and supervise children during chapel services. Address behavior issues using HCYR and TDFPS-approved methods, including TBRI principles. Collaborate with therapists and program staff to implement individualized counseling and activity plans. Ensure timely arrival of residents to all appointments. Adhere to assigned schedule and timekeeping policies. Model responsible, mature behavior in all interactions; follow HCYR code of conduct and policies. Provide a growth-oriented living environment that fosters trust, confidence, and emotional development. Identify and inform residents of off limit/dangerous areas; teach appropriate safety measures. Work assigned schedule and adhered to Hill Country Youth Ranch's timekeeping policy Perform other duties as assigned.Job Types:
