Job Description

The Litigation Division of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Law Department represents NYCHA in complex commercial and non-commercial litigation and pre-litigation matters. Commercial matters include contractor claims for delay, extra work, acceleration, and other damages. Noncommercial matters include complaints or lawsuits brought by NYCHA employees, as well as complaints and Article 78 challenges brought by NYCHA Section 8 and Section 9 program participants and residents. The Litigation Division seeks a Housing Assistant (HA) to support its General Litigation units. In this position the HA will take on, but not be limited to, the following assignments: 1. Input new matters and other information into the case management system. 2. Serve as a liaison to the developments, tenants, attorneys and other departments. 3. Assist with initiating court proceedings regarding eviction/remaining family members utilizing Siebel database for case preparation. 4. Work closely with the Impartial Hearing Office. 5. Support opportunities to improve and streamline internal electronic records management. 6. Communicate with other departments to obtain relevant documents and information from NYCHA databases. 7. Review and summarize Section 8 and Section 9 program records. 8. Assist in document productions and other discovery, including Landlord Tenant Matters. 9. Respond to, forward, and track inquiries from other units and third parties.

  • 80201 Minimum Qualifications A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or An associate degree or sixty semester credits from an accredited college and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in housing management at a development or developments containing at least 150 apartments, performing any one or a combination of the following duties: interviewing applicants; determining eligibility; gathering and evaluating information to resolve complaints; collecting rents; and/or resolving tenant-related problems; or A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described in "1" or "2" above.
Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of satisfactory full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent. Preferred Skills
  • Hands on knowledge of the Siebel Database, Legal Stratus, Oracle, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and NYCHA's Termination of Tenancy procedures.
  • Knowledge of CRD and the preparation of Chronic Delinquency Specification of charges.
  • Knowledge of the Annual Review process.
  • Excellent communication skills with team members and external parties.
  • Well organized.
