In this senior, business-facing role, you will strengthen how the YMCA of the North hires, supports, and advances leaders across a large, distributed organization. Operating within the Chief Business Officer portfolio, you will partner closely with operational leaders and the Executive Team to ensure our talent systems are practical, responsive, and scalable. This is not a traditional centralized HR executive role. It is a business-embedded leadership position focused on hiring outcomes, employee relations, and leader advisory support.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Talent Strategy & Executive Advisory Provide governance and executive-level counsel on complex talent decisions Guide leaders through sensitive employee matters, performance concerns, and leadership transitions Establish clear frameworks for advancement, succession readiness, and internal mobility Talent Acquisition & Hiring Outcomes Own and improve hiring outcomes across the organization, including speed, quality, and consistency Strengthen recruiting processes and leader support across a multi-site, distributed environment Build visibility into leadership pipelines and align workforce plans to mission needs Employee Relations & Escalation Management Lead complex employee relations matters with sound judgment and consistency Partner with Risk, Legal, and operational leaders on sensitive or high-impact cases Reduce unnecessary escalation while increasing manager confidence and capability Embedded Talent Advisory Model Lead and develop a team of embedded Talent Advisors aligned to operational leaders Ensure consistent, end-to-end support across hiring, employee relations, and talent decisions Build strong trust and credibility between People & Culture and the business Leadership Effectiveness & Organizational Support Strengthen leader effectiveness through talent decisions, advisory support, and pipeline visibility Support leaders through organizational change, growth, and evolving workforce needs Increase visibility into leadership pipeline health and internal mobility
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Executive Vice President & Chief Business Officer and partners closely with: Executive Team members Operational leaders across the YMCA People Operations leadership Organizational Development leadership
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience 8+ years of progressive People & Culture, HR, or talent leadership experience Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders on complex talent and employee relations decisions Strong depth in recruiting, employee relations, and leadership advisory work Experience operating in large, distributed, multi-location organizations Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into execution and deliver measurable talent outcomes Sound judgment, discretion, and emotional maturity in high-stakes situations Preferred Experience in nonprofit, mission-driven, or similarly complex organizations Experience leading HRBP or embedded talent advisory models Proven success strengthening leadership pipelines and internal mobility Experience improving hiring practices across large organizations Advanced degree or relevant certification Bi/multilingual
WORK CONDITIONS
Ability to work on a computer for extended periods Regular travel across YMCA of the North locations Ability to respond to time-sensitive matters outside standard hours when needed

In-Person Attendance Requirement:
Candidates must be located within reasonable commuting distance and able to adjust their schedule as needed to support regular, often daily, in-person collaboration. The salary range for this position is at $127,000 - $170,000 annually. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
